Electrical Engineer

Details: The Electrical Engineer is responsible for all electrical systems as well as some industrial control systems at the site. Takes a lead role in all electrical projects including vendor selection and management through to installation. Organizes and maintains documentation and records of all such systems on the site. The successful candidate will have a BS in EE or equivalent and 5 years of job related experience. This position is located in Livingston, Louisiana. The Caltech/MIT Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) is a large experimental physics facility whose purpose is the observation of gravitational waves from space. For more information see the project web site at http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/ Some travel may be required to the LIGO observatory at Hanford, WA and/or to the Caltech or MIT campuses. Job Duties: * Lead support of electrical systems installed across the observatory. These include AC power distribution, DC power, laser interlocks, vacuum controls, facilities monitoring and backup power. * Plan and oversee electrical system installations at the observatory, including changes to the electrical power systems. * Support industrial control systems used for environmental, vacuum and access controls at the observatory. * Support installation of upgrades to the interferometer control systems, including DC power and cabling. * Organize and maintain documentation for all racks and cable plants at the observatory. Maintain records of all electrical panels and feeds at the observatory. * Ensure compliance with relevant IEC standards. * Work with staff members at other LIGO sites to coordinate joint efforts. * Support detector and observatory operations at the Livingston observatory. This may include being on-call for occasional work after-hours or on weekends. * Other duties as assigned.
