The speed limit in Wisconsin would increase to 70 mph under a proposal being introduced in the state Assembly. Republican Rep. Paul Tittl of Manitowoc planned to unveil his proposal today at a Capitol news conference. Full Story: Antigo Daily Journal

Antigo is unveiling its new Peaceful Valley festival grounds this weekend as it hosts the 28th annual Badgerland Classics and Customs car show. Badgerland Classics and Customs will come to a new location—Antigo’s one-of-a-kind Peaceful Valley—for its 28th annual car show on Sunday. Long known for its hospitality, Peaceful Valley has been revitalized through a city-sponsored project that includes an expansive new blacktopped festival and parking area, park and playground, and connections to the city’s trail system along Spring Brook and Antigo Lake. Members of the Inland Lake District Wednesday reviewed a new $10,000 line item for Spring Brook Trail maintenance and expansion before easily adopting an overall budget of $89,000. Sixteen residents of the Inland Lake District, which includes all voters and property owners within the city of Antigo, attended the session. There were also three non-voting members present. Melissa Bloechl was freed today on a $25,000 signature bond after appearing in Langlade County Circuit Court on charges of misconduct and forgery during her term as clerk-treasurer of the town of Elcho. Bloechl, 43, has been the subject of a sheriff’s investigation and today was called to the court hearing. Full Story: Antigo Daily Journal

Tom Schroepfer, a fitness enthusiast, did something recently few, if anyone else has done, swim across Pelican Lake. Residents of the Inland Lake District, which includes all voters and property owners within the city of Antigo, will be asked to continue funding a variety of lake and trail improvement programs on Wednesday. Langlade County Judge Fred Kawalski presided over another rash of newly-filed criminal cases Monday, establishing bail bonds and setting the court proceedings into action. Nicholas R.
