Council backs $9 million budget, document praised

A 2014 budget that nibbles at the edge of $9 million won backing from the Antigo Common Council on Wednesday. Meeting informally as a committee of the whole, aldermen unanimously backed the spending plan calling for overall expenditures of $8.9 million, an increase of 3.14 percent. Debt service will fall 4.86 percent, to $1.9 million, due in part to improving property tax receipts from the city’s tax incremental finance districts. Full Story: Antigo Daily Journal

Charges filed in local land dispute

Bail was reduced but an order restricting movement was maintained Monday in the case of a rural Antigo man charged in connection with a long-standing land dispute with his neighbor. Armin Bork, 77, of 317 Forest Road stands charged in Langlade County Circuit Court with four criminal counts — two for disorderly conduct and two for knowingly violating a harassment restraining order. $5,000 bail for Antigo man cited in bottle attack at bar

Calling it a “completely unprovoked attack,” District Attorney Ralph Uttke recommended Monday that an Antigo man be held on a $5,000 cash bond on charges he struck a fellow bar patron over the head with a liquor bottle. Langlade County Judge Fred Kawalski agreed, setting bail for Bernard J. Mueller, 48, of 235 Deleglise St. in that amount on charges of aggravated battery and disorderly conduct. Student representatives are welcomed to board

The Antigo school board welcomed two new student representatives and moved smoothly through a light agenda Tuesday. At the regular September meeting, the board welcomed Sara Ruhl as the student representative, with JaCey Yonke as alternate. Antigo man among chase suspects

An Antigo resident is among three men jailed today in connection with a high speed chase which trekked across Marathon County following an apparent armed robbery at a Plover area residence on Sunday. Archie Biddell, 21, of 1840 Clermont St., along with Dale Lyndell, 18, of Wausau and Michael Hays, 22, of Merrill, all appeared in Marathon County Circuit Court Monday, facing charges of resisting arrest as a result of the chase which ended in a crash near Ringle.
