Motorcyclist flees at high speed, crashes

A high speed chase crossed through Antigo’s south side and into the southern reaches of Langlade County early Sunday when a local man fled from police on his motorcycle and then crashed while slowing after the pursuit was terminated. Law officers said the 23-year-old Antigo man was intoxicated and escaped with only a minor ankle injury as a result of the crash which occurred along Highway G just into Marathon County. Spring bath salt sale triggers charges for Antigo woman

An Antigo woman has been arrested and charged in connection with an undercover drug deal involving the alleged sale of suspected bath salts. Christy M. Hicks, 36, of 1570 1/2 Neva Road remains in custody at the Langlade County Jail charged with two felony counts, particularly the distribution of a hazardous substance. AmeriGas collecting coats for local families at Neva Road site

AmeriGas, located across from the fairgrounds at 1584 Neva Rd. is now serving as a winter coat collection and distribution center for families who need warm coats, mittens and scarves for the coming cold weather. AmeriGas employees Julie Brandt and Kami Nicholson were looking for a way to help the Salvation Army serve needs in Langlade County and make use of the large display area at the Antigo office. Police contract, road work handled by council

The Antigo Common Council rolled through its October agenda in just 17 minutes Wednesday, approving a series of initiatives that included a new police contract and planning for future road construction. On a 7-1 vote, aldermen inked a new three -year contract with the Antigo Professional Police Officers Association, which represented municipal law enforcement officers. State dairy exports gaining

Wisconsin’s dairy exports increased more than 20 percent last year compared to 2011, and agriculture leaders say they expect continued growth as the state strengthens its ties to international trade groups and more companies open overseas offices. Dairy exports grew 22 percent from 2011 to $282 million in 2012, according to figures from thr the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Full Story: Antigo Daily Journal

Entertainment booked, raffles being organized for Mark Samolinski benefit

It’s rare for a benefit to be billed as a concert, but that is the case Saturday when friends, co-workers and family gather for a major fund-raiser for Mark Samolinski, an Antigo man suffering from a very complicated cancer. The benefit is open to the public, admission is free and the headline entertainment, and reasons for the “concert” billing, is Southern Gypsy, one of the state’s most recognized bands. Marijuana found, three face charges

Three people are facing drug charges today following a visit by Antigo police to a Sixth Avenue apartment Monday night. Officers were tipped off to possible suspicious activity and according to reports, it involved the use of marijuana. Two people, a 21-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were arrested for possessing both marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A 23-year-old female was cited for possessing drug paraphernalia. White Lake group offers waterways organization donation to continue work

To organizations devoted to improving water quality throughout Langlade County are celebrating milestones. The Langlade County Waterways Association Inc. has received a $500 donation from the White Lake Association in recognition of its efforts over nearly a decade-and-a-half to improve water quality and foster education throughout the region. Prime Time: Tlusty enjoys 'Top Adventure' on the Missouri

It’s known as the MR340, and has been cited by National Geographic Magazine as one of America’s Top 100 Adventures. Antigo’s Dave Tlusty wouldn’t argue with that. Tlusty and his son, Kyle, along with Tanya Rasmussen as their one-person support team, completed the Missouri River paddle between July 23 and July 26, covering the 340-mile endurance trek in 79 hours and 25 minutes. Prime Time History: Mattoon named for Civil War hero, entrepreneur

George B. Mattoon was born in Troy, N.Y. on Feb. 27, 1847. His mother's name was Mary Vaughn, and his father's name was Samuel Mattoon. George was the eighth child in a family of nine children. At the age of 12, George petitioned his father for permission to go out and make his own living. His father granted his wish and George left Troy and Journeyed to Swanzey, N.H. Jail for man involved in crash, busy day in local courtroom

A Gleason man acknowledged his misdeeds before the court Friday, agreeing that his behavior put his life and that of others in danger. Brandon A. Spotswood, 24, voiced the words prior to being sentenced in Langlade County Circuit Court to five days in jail, advising that he was doing what he could to ensure similar problems would not occur in the future. White Lake students do great business at Packer stadium stand

Students at the White Lake School are sporting an extra dose of Packer green and gold this year. Through a Packer program, non-profit groups in the school are pending their Sundays manning a concession stand at Lambeau Field, earning some cash for their organizations while playing a key role in the Packer Nation. Brandow, riding before she could walk, competing at huge show

Antigo High School senior Brooke Brandow, who began riding horses when she was barely a toddler, will compete later this month in a granddaddy of a horse show. Brandow, daughter of Dawn and Dave Brandow of Antigo leaves Oct. 15 for the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio, where she will compete along with 20,000 other entries in the major national show.
