Antigo woman to serve jail time for drunken driving

An Antigo woman arrested nearly two years ago was sentenced here Wednesday to serve 10 months in jail for her fourth offense of drunken driving. Stephanie A. Young, 27, of 1102 Clermont St. pleaded guilty to the crime which dates to an early morning accident on Dec. 12, 2011. Camera captures images of alleged thief, Antigo man charged

Surveillance cameras led to the capture of an Antigo man accused of fraudulently using stolen ATM cards to steal an estimated $800 in cash. Derek J. Cline, 19, of 1009 Seventh Ave. was charged in Langlade County Circuit Court this week with three felony counts — one for burglary and two charges of identity theft — in connection with the July 25 crime. Man charged in theft of drugs from pharmacy

An Antigo man remains in local custody today charged with the theft of a substantial supply of drugs from a local pharmacy. James A. Jones, 34, of 933 Sixth Ave. stands accused in Langlade County Circuit Court with three criminal counts — burglary, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of an illegally obtained prescription medication. Raptor group needs help in several areas

Antigo’s Raptor Education Group Inc. is appealing to the public for volunteers, donations, monetary and otherwise, and support in its Eagle Rare contest. All are key to maintaining the acclaimed wildlife rehabilitation center. According to Marge Gibson, the center’s director, REGI is caring for the most birds in its history, and doing it with a shoestring staff and only one volunteer from Antigo. Antigo police notify public of sex offender's release from prison

A man who has completed his term of incarceration on convictions of child sexual assault is returning to Antigo. On Monday, Antigo Police Department officials distributed fliers to those residing in the area of South Superior Street in connection with today’s release of 23-year-old Stephen S. Coley. Local schools meeting expectations

Antigo, Elcho and White Lake joined the majority of Wisconsin public schools and districts that met or exceeded expectations as graded on report cards released today by the Department of Public Instruction. Antigo received an overall rating of 66.4, which means it meets expectations. In priority areas, it scored 57.7 percent in student achievement, compared to 66.1 statewide; 57 in student growth, compared to 60.6 statewide; 66.2 in closing gaps, compared to 66.8 statewide; and 84.7 in on-track and post-secondary readiness, compared to 84.9 statewide. Woman jailed for fuel thefts at Phlox

A Green Bay woman has been turned over to local officials to face prosecution for twice stealing gasoline from a Phlox area service station. The first incident occurred in August and the second just this past weekend, totaling a loss of nearly $100. She was caught when the owner of Kuhr’s Kountry Store obtained the fleeing vehicle’s license plate number. Full Story: Antigo Daily Journal

Woman fights off vandal with bottle of rum

An Antigo woman told police early today that she is sporting two black eyes and a cut lip after she tussled with a man she caught writing a most unflattering description on the screen door of her Third Avenue home — but he might be hurting even worse. According to reports, the 54-year-old said she chased the vandal with a bottle of rum, using it to strike him over the head. Full Story: Antigo Daily Journal

Council conducts quiet August meeting

The fall agenda of the Antigo Common Council Wednesday included a number of routine items, and those that usually sail through the meeting without much objection on the consent agent were withdrawn for future consideration.
