Antigo board schedules budget vote, interviews

The Antigo school board plans final action on a 2013-14 budget next Tuesday, and will interview candidates to fill an open seat on the panel on Nov. 5. At its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, the board set those dates for the special meetings, meeting state and local perameters for the budget action, and working toward filling the vacancy caused by the resignation of Dr. Karl Niedermann in late September in a timely manner. Olsen resigns position on County Board

Richard Olsen, who represented much of the town of Elcho on the Langlade County Board for over a decade, resigned his position at the close of Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting. Olsen, whose District 15 includes Elcho’s First Ward, which stretches from just west of Post Lake to the town’s western boundary, hand-delivered his letter to Clerk Kathy Jacob as the meeting concluded. City shows glitzy Yule decorations

Amid some appropriate, if early, snow flurries the city of Antigo unveiled its new downtown Christmas decorations today. Director of Administrative Services Mary Desotell brought one of each of the eight new designs to this morning’s meeting of the Antigo First downtown revitalization group, giving them an early glimpse of the decorations that will soon adorn light poles along Fifth Avenue and elsewhere in the community. Woman linked to undercover 'salt' sale faces local charges

A second person has been charged in connection with the local sale of a highly-problematic drug known as bath salts. Ashleigh P. Kinney, 27, of 217 1/2 Deleglise St. was charged in Langlade County Circuit Court Monday with two counds of distributing a hazardous substance for her part in a pair of alleged transactions at an Antigo home this spring. White Lake homecoming capped Friday

White Lake High School is celebrating homecoming festivities this week, led by King Dylan Korvela and Queen Lexie Kegley. Joining them on the court are Paige Clay and Gary Doemel, freshmen representatives; sophomore representative Dani Kubacki accompanied by senior Joe Kubacki in the absence of a sophomore football player; junior representatives Lizzie Schultz and Jake Wegner; and senior Princess and Prince Samantha Wickersheim and Brandon Helmer. School tax impact less than anticipated

The Antigo school district’s 2013-14 budget picture, traditionally fuzzy as the district awaits final enrollment counts and state aid estimates, is coming into focus, and the increase in the tax rate will be less than first anticipated. At a special meeting Tuesday, the district’s administrative staff reviewed the latest budget numbers with the board of education, projecting a 7.56 percent increase in the rate. Craft show

Members of the Antigo Junior Woman’s Club are getting ready for their 38th annual Craft and Trade Show Saturday at Langlade County Fairgrounds. Five candidates already seek school board post

Five candidates have already expressed an interest, and there is time for more to emerge as well, as the Antigo school board grapples with filling a vacancy for a potentially tie-busting seat. At a special meeting Tuesday, the board extended the deadline for people interested in applying to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Dr. Karl Niedermann, until Oct. 28. Man cited for conduct violation in 'exposure' case

Antigo police said a male accused of exposing himself to a female motorist outside a north side business Monday provided an explanation. The man told officers he was using his vehicle’s side mirror to check a rash on his groin and leg area when he was spotted by the woman as she parked in the lot.
