Storage units entered, ATV, go-kart taken

The Langlade County Sheriff’s Department is searching for clues into a theft at a local storage complex, indicating that at least six units were entered since late last week. The theft was discovered on Sunday and evidence retrieved from the scene indicates that the break-ins at the Highway 45 operation located north of Antigo would have occurred since Thursday, Nov. 28. Chili cook-off, big Christmas parade scheduled for Wednesday in Antigo

Antigo will welcome Santa Claus to town Wednesday with a Christmas Night of Lights, accompanied by a hot bowl of chili. The chili cook-off and Christmas parade—the largest downtown event of the year—will fill the avenue with sights, sounds and certainly a spicy aroma throughout the day and into the evening hours. White Lake Historical Society opens campaign for funds for new building

The White Lake Historical Society has opened a push for funds to complete its historical center. According to George Rock, the Society’s president, and members of the board of directors, the group remains about $35,000 short of its goal to raise funds to complete the new center located adjacent to the Depot Museum. Prosecutor says local drug charges will be dropped

A case involving the distribution of illegal drugs is scheduled to be called in Langlade County Circuit Court today but officials indicate that the hearing should be quite short. In light of a federal indictment announced last week, District Attorney Ralph Uttke said today that he plans to dismiss the local charges pending against 35- year-old John Hunter of Antigo. This year, prices change little on fixings for a Thanksgiving feast

Here’s another reason to be thankful this holiday season — the cost of putting Thanksgiving dinner on the table is down slightly from last year. Hunting season opener called good here, frigid temperatures, fewer deer cited

Eric Borchert, Department of Natural Resources wildlife technician in Antigo, called the 2013 gun deer opener “good” but not spectacular due to lower numbers of animals and frigid temperatures. Hunters awoke both Saturday and Sunday mornings to the coldest opening weekend conditions in years and that, coupled with a deer herd still recovering from a very long 2012-13 winter, caused a 26 percent reduction in opening weekend harvest totals. Federal prosecutors take over drug case for Antigo man, penalties higher

There was a dramatic development late Wednesday in a drug case that started unfolding in northern Langlade County more than 27 months ago. John M. Hunter, 35, is charged in federal court with a single count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, cocaine and marijuana. If convicted, he faces from five to 40 years in prison, up to a $5 million fine and from four years to life of supervision after release. Full Story: Antigo Daily Journal

Teen already facing drug charges arrested again on marijuana counts

An Antigo teen already facing drug-related allegations dating to April made his second court appearance here Monday in four days, this time charged with a new series of criminal offenses. Aaron T. Schofield, 18, of W9191 N. Rollwood Road was arrested Friday night after the vehicle he was a passenger in was stopped for a traffic violation along Highway 45 on the city’s northern outskirts. This is day to honor snowplow drivers

Light snow is in the forecast through the weekend—an initial blast of what will surely be a long winter—and city and county snow removal crews are ready.
