An outstanding hockey player has been honored with a scholarship for physically challenged athletes.
Ezra McPhail, son of Robert and Becky McPhail of Antigo, has been named the latest recipient of the Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship Fund supported by Swim With Mike, which hosts yearly swim-a-thon events across the country.

The Langlade County Sheriff’s Department is searching for clues into a theft at a local storage complex, indicating that at least six units were entered since late last week.
The theft was discovered on Sunday and evidence retrieved from the scene indicates that the break-ins at the Highway 45 operation located north of Antigo would have occurred since Thursday, Nov. 28.

A traffic stop east of Antigo early Saturday ended in a Wausau man’s arrest for a fifth offense of drunken driving.
Langlade County officials said the 39-year-old-driver was initially stopped on Highway F after his vehicle was witnessed crossing the center line. Authorities said he tested positive for the presence of alcohol and was taken into custody.

The sun set for an other year on one of Wisconsin’s longest traditions Sunday—the gun deer hunting season.
While final numbers won’t be known until Tuesday, Department of Natural Resources wildlife technician Eric Borchert labeled this season a success, with numbers only slightly down from last year, a not unexpected occurrence.

The White Lake Historical Society has opened a push for funds to complete its historical center.
According to George Rock, the Society’s president, and members of the board of directors, the group remains about $35,000 short of its goal to raise funds to complete the new center located adjacent to the Depot Museum.

The Antigo school board tried its best, again, but couldn’t fill the vacant chair on its panel.
In a marathon session Tuesday evening, the board worked for nearly five hours and came up empty on the big agenda item, replacing the seat held by Dr. Karl Niedermann until his resignation in September.

A case involving the distribution of illegal drugs is scheduled to be called in Langlade County Circuit Court today but officials indicate that the hearing should be quite short.
In light of a federal indictment announced last week, District Attorney Ralph Uttke said today that he plans to dismiss the local charges pending against 35- year-old John Hunter of Antigo.

Eric Borchert, Department of Natural Resources wildlife technician in Antigo, called the 2013 gun deer opener “good” but not spectacular due to lower numbers of animals and frigid temperatures.
Hunters awoke both Saturday and Sunday mornings to the coldest opening weekend conditions in years and that, coupled with a deer herd still recovering from a very long 2012-13 winter, caused a 26 percent reduction in opening weekend harvest totals.

A fireman from Sheboygan, Elmer Storbeck, had some bad luck in Antigo this weekend. He had stopped at the Standard Oil Co. station at Fifth Avenue and Edison Street for gasoline and while the car was being filled, lit a cigar and tossed the match on the ground.

There was a dramatic development late Wednesday in a drug case that started unfolding in northern Langlade County more than 27 months ago.
John M. Hunter, 35, is charged in federal court with a single count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, cocaine and marijuana. If convicted, he faces from five to 40 years in prison, up to a $5 million fine and from four years to life of supervision after release.
