White Lake Historical Society breaks ground for a new museum

The White Lake Historical Society, an organization devoted to preserving things old, is bringing something new to that Eastern Langlade County community. Members of the Society recently held a ground-breaking ceremony for new historical center, which will be built adjacent to the historic, but small Wisconsin Central depot that is a linchpin of the community. Bail set at $10,000 for unruly man at hospital

Bail was set at $10,000 cash Monday for a Pickerel area man arrested on charges linked to his erratic antics Sunday in the emergency room at Langlade Hospital.

Ryan Becker, 42, is currently housed in the Langlade County lock-up on four criminal charges — two of them felonies for throwing or discharging bodily fluids at a public safety worker and intentional obstruction of emergency or rescue personnel.

Antigo woman charged in knife attack of man

An Antigo woman is in local custody awaiting prosecution as the result of a weekend fight which left both she and a male companion with cut wounds from a knife. Police said the 19-year old has been referred to the district attorney’s office on charges of endangerment of safety with use of a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and bail jumping. Game development team, with Elcho member, is tops in the nation

A video game developed in part by a University of Wisconsin-Stout student from Elcho has earned national honors. Flash Frozen, a video game created by a team of UW-Stout game design and development students, was declared national co-champion June 13 in the inaugural E-3 College Game Competition held at the Entertainment Software Association E-3 conference in Los Angeles. Prime Times: 19th century granary reclaimed for 21st century homes

White pine milled over 126 years ago along the shores of Lake Superior is finding new life in northwoods homes and businesses courtesy of a northwoods sawmill. With an eye on sustaining natural resources, the Rhinelander-based Enterprise Wood Products is reclaiming massive timber slabs from long-closed grain elevators along the shores of Lake Superior. Elcho, White Lake boards will continue sharing administrator

The Elcho and White Lake boards of education convened separately this week, but took very similar actions, approving the paperwork associated with continuing to share a school district administrator. On Tuesday the White Lake board of education agreed to continue the arrangement with Elcho for two more years, extending the term through 2014-15. Elcho followed suit Wednesday evening. Antigo picnic set for Monday evening

Monday’s Picnic in the Park, which has grown into a major summertime event, will have an extra patriotic flair this year. Organizers of the annual fete, which includes a picnic featuring Salm Brothers sausages plus music with the outstanding “Hip Pocket” show band, are extending a special call for veterans to enjoy the evening with a nod to the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. Watercolor by Cindy Martin selected for national art exhibit in California

Artist Cindy Martin of Deerbrook has been juried into a national watercolor show with her painting, Sugar Loaf Mountain. With over 4,000 members, the National Watercolor Society selected the best 100 watercolor paintings from over 400 national artist entries for inclusion in the show, which is on display in San Pedro, Calif. through Aug. 18. 'Bath salt' cases dominate local courtroom action

The Langlade County Court system has been inundated in recent weeks with matters concerning the possession of illegal drugs, specifically a substance known in street terms as “bath salts” which have run rampant across the area. On Monday alone, the afternoon session included an appearance by three individuals who combined have racked up more than two dozen charges between them, many involving use of the powdered substance which has been linked to unusual, erratic and certainly criminal behavior. $25,000 bail set for Antigo man cited in exposure case

Bail was set at $25,000 cash Tuesday for Jacob L. Ball, a 26-year old Antigo man accused of exposing himself to a young girl at an area ball park earlier this week. The allegations filed in Langlade County Circuit Court are serious with four of the six criminal counts being felonies and carrying the possibility of an extended term of incarceration. Felony counts filed in case of child neglect

An Antigo couple accused of leaving three children ages eight and under to fend for several hours on their own is now facing criminal charges. Michelle G. Steffers, 32, and William F. Moffat, 42, both of 135 Dorr St., were each charged in Langlade County Circuit Court Monday with second degree reckless endangerment of safety, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of child neglect. Antigo man jailed for exposing self to girl

An Antigo man with a history of inappropriate sexual behavior is back in the local lockup today accused of exposing himself to a nine-year old girl in the restroom of an area ball park.

The 25-year old man was arrested Monday afternoon after the child’s mother reported the incident to police.
