$1 million lotto ticket sold here, still waiting for winner to surface

Antigo was buzzing at coffee shops and at the Krist convenience store at Superior Street and 10th Avenue this morning. It isn’t quite the excitement surrounding the Publix supermarket in Zephyrhills, Fla., where someone in the small town won the largest Powerball pot in history at $590.5 million, but the $1 million winning ticket at the convenience store is the largest in the history of Antigo. Potato planting moving quickly

The spring planting season in Langlade County official got underway when the big Schroeder Bros. tractors and equipment rolled into the potato fields just south of the city limits. Hampered by a wet, cold spring that brought freezing temperatures, sleet and snow to the area just a week ago, the equipment got rolling a bit late, but there are still hopes for a good season. Trail corridors sought for Langlade County

Langlade County’s moniker as the “County of Trails” could get another boost. The public has an opportunity to review and comment on a proposed corridor for the Ice Age National Scenic Trail through southern Langlade County that would connect the existing trail that comes from Lincoln County to the west and winds its way east and south to connect with Marathon County. Local man jailed in California on child sex count

An Antigo man on the run from the law on charges involving the alleged sexual assault of a child is in custody today in a California jail cell. Edward L. Fleming, 58, of 1336 Neva Road was arrested Tuesday and is awaiting extradition to Wisconsin where he stands accused of a felony sex crime which could potentially put him behind prison bars for the next 60 years. $2 million bond in wife murder case

Prosecutors say a life insurance policy and an extramarital affair, as well as other evidence, led to charges against a Merrill man in the slaying of his wife. Forty-nine-year-old Mark Bucki was charged in Lincoln County Tuesday with first-degree intentional homicide, hiding a corpse and stabbing, strangulation and suffocation in the death of his 48-year-old wife, Anita Bucki. Spring concert here Thursday

Twenty-five years ago, a group of madrigal singers were having so much fun at a community theater performance that they decided to keep singing. On Thursday, Antigo’s own “Of Chorus!” will celebrate its silver anniversary with a joint concert with another local institution, Antigo Area Community Band, formed following the Langlade County centennial celebration in 1979. Charges filed in 'bath salt' arrests

Criminal charges have been filed against four individuals arrested here earlier this week after the vehicle they occupied was found littered with evidence of drug use, including that of both marijuana and “bath salts.”

The four include Max R. Brummer, 24, of Weston; Rachel F. Gerber, 25, of Rothschild; Kerrie Podhora, 19, of Eagle River; and Jacob Leiterman, 19, of Antigo.

A midnight traffic stop for false registration turned to a criminal drug investigation today on Antigo’s far south side. Four individuals, including a 19-year old Antigo man, were jailed on a variety of charges including possession of a hazardous substance following the discovery of suspected “bath salts”, a hallucinogenic drug, inside the vehicle.
