Board agrees to beef up Safety Building personnel

With no dissension or discussion, the Langlade County Board of Supervisors voted today to beef up the staff in the corrections program. After highly-publicized problems at the Marathon County detention center, which included several officers, the supervisors voted unanimously to change a part-time employee in the correction to full-time effective Jan. 1. DePere man jailed here on alcohol count after crash

A Langlade County sheriff’s deputy didn’t have to go far to investigate a weekend crash which resulted in the driver’s arrest for a third offense of drunken driving. It happened right in front of him. The auto left Highway 55 at Highway K and entered a ditch at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday and the four occupants, who ranged in age from 24 to 26, were witnessed exiting the vehicle. Judge hears mix of cases, several for drug possession

A two-year term of probation was ordered in Langlade County Circuit Court Thursday for a Weston man who was among the four individuals arrested during a May 9 traffic stop in which evidence of drug use was found. It was one of several cases heard by Judge Fred Kawalski this week which involved the use of drugs, including a substance known as bath salts. Full Story: Antigo Daily Journal

City to keep emergency services, talks continue

The Antigo Common Council Wednesday voted to continue talks with Langlade Hospital over financing for ambulance service, while stressing that the emergency operations will remain a city system. On a 5-4 vote, aldermen approved a motion authorizing Mayor Bill Brandt “to explore financing options for ambulance with Langlade Hospital” while striking out language that would have included a possible hospital-based service. Prison for Antigo man linked to series of drug, weapon counts

An Antigo man was sentenced here Monday to serve the next six years of his life in prison, bringing an end to a five month spiral which spun him in and out of the local court system on drug and weapons-related charges. Community spirit was displayed

The Village of White Lake knows how to hold a July Fourth celebration, and it happened again on Saturday. The annual parade got off with a bang at noon and was led, as always, by the color guard formed from community veterans and some who are still active in the armed service, and they were joined by representatives of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War posts and the Poppy Princess, Kayla Krueger and a member of the court, Charlese Thompson.
