Emergency Technician - Objective at UW Health at The American Center

Details: Job Description •*At the time this position begins at UW Health at The American Center, it will be non-represented.** Emergency Technician - Objective supports the care of patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Takes vital signs, measures input and output; collects non-invasive specimens; and records all data collected in the medical record. Assists with patient flow. Prepares, positions, and monitors stable patients during transport. Responsible for preparing equipment during basic examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments using aseptic techniques. Maintains equipment, orders supplies, and cleans and restocks the treatment areas. Under the direction of the registered nurse, performs simple diagnostic tests and obtains blood samples by venipuncture. Initiates peripheral IVs as directed by the physician order and under the direction of the registered nurse. Communicates directly with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and patient families and is responsible to report changes in the patient's condition. Performs duties under the general supervision of a registered nurse. Work Schedule 60% - Hours covered will be between 3pm and 7am with 8/12 hour shifts, "B" weekend rotation. This position includes weekends and Holiday coverage. Hours may vary due to operational needs of the department. Qualifications Completion of EMT IV program or EMT-P program required. One year of relevant healthcare experience required. Relevant experience in Emergency Departments, Hospitals, or other heath care entities to include EMS preferred. CPR/AED course work completion prior to hire required. The UWHC Basic Arrhythmia competency must be completed within 3 months of hire National Registry or any State Emergency Medical Technician -IV or EMT-P licensure required. Knowledge of Standard Precaution techniques and ability to incorporate Standard Precaution techniques while providing patient care Knowledge of safety measures used during provision of patient care Knowledge and ability to practice aseptic technique Ability to read in order to interpret type and level of patient care ordered, to record patient vital signs, and to understand and follow instruction related to basic patient care Ability to learn patient care procedures. Ability to apply patient safety protocols. Ability to understand the use of patient care equipment and supplies and the principles of infections control. Ability to work under a fast paced and stressful environment. Ability to observe and accurately report on the condition of the patient. Ability to communicate directly with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and patient families to receive instructions on the treatment plan and report changes in the patient's condition.
