The First Day Surgery (FDS)/Outpatient Surgery Center (OSC)/Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Nurse Clinician is a professional nurse position involving the performance of direct and indirect care with patients whose condition requires an intensive degree of nursing skills. The Nurse Clinician is responsible for independent peri-anesthetic management of a complex varied surgical population, including, but not limited to, the Ophthalmology, ENT, GYN, General Surgery, Plastics, Orthopedics, Urology, Transplant, Peripheral Vascular, Neurosurgery, and Thoracic Services. This requires the clinician to provide comprehensive care with surgical patients who might also have underlying medical and emotional problems. The Nurse Clinician must easily assimilate a multitude of patient needs and establish priorities. He/she must make skilled and advanced assessments and act in a preventive manner to minimize complication. Advanced decision making skills are also a requirement. The Nurse Clinician is also responsible for independent management of a complex and various procedural population including, but not limited to the Cat scans and MRI patients.
