This support includes work station design and line layout, assistance in tooling and fixture design and procurement, creation of manufacturing routings, direction in equipment repair and maintenance, determination of equipment capabilities, evaluation of welding techniques, leadership roles in production improvement teams, troubleshoot welding problems and design and install poke yoke devices to eliminate production problems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Welding Manufacturing Engineer : • Ability to optimize welding applications through selection of proper welding equipment and materials, quality control procedures, destructive and non-destructive testing methods, and training of welding personnel to ensure the quality and reliability of welded assemblies. • Plan and Organize Projects- Plans, schedules, organizes, estimates resource needs, and implements for assigned engineering projects. These projects are determined by manufacturing and production needs. • Production Support- Support Manufacturing and Production in areas of process concerns, equipment problems, and any other product flow issues. • Capital Equipment Justifications- Performs feasibility studies for capital equipment and prepares justifications using approved investment analysis techniques. Directs and controls approved projects. • Productivity and Efficiency- Seeks and recommends ways to improve products, equipment, tooling, and processes to increase overall productivity, capacity, lead time and gross margin. Uses scientific problem solving tools (TQ, DOE, SPC) in the execution of normal work assignments. • Product Routings and Engineering Changes- Prepares shop routings for the manufacture and assembly of parts and products. Assigns standard hour times to routing operations and performs periodic time studies to verify standard accuracy. Maintain standard cost information on piece part routings with respect to manufacture, purchase or subcontract status changes. Confirms and authorizes material and design changes to assure manufacturability. • Design and Develop Tools and Fixtures- Designs, develop and improve tooling, gagging, jigs and fixtures for Manufacturing and Assembly /Test. • Develop and Write Work Instructions- Standard operation procedures for production. • Preventative Maintenance- Coordinates maintenance and repair of machines and equipment.
