Consistently works toward more optimal tax return preparation efficiency, identifying opportunities for changes to tax return procedures and / or entity structuring that enhances the quality and timeliness of CHI tax returns. The manager ensures that information is retained for use in ASC 740-10 and other processes. Accumulates the data necessary to comply with ASC 740-10. 3. Responsible for performing tax research on federal, state and local income tax issues for CHI and CHI’s MBOs, including issues involving both for-profit and tax-exempt organizations. Also responsible for performing research on sales and use, property, insurance, excise, payroll tax and other tax matters in a variety of jurisdictions, resolving issues and developing recommendations. Manager ensures that the tax department provides high quality, consistent advice to MBOs. 4. In conjunction with the tax director, monitors changes in the law and / or tax filing requirements that may impact CHI’s tax positions, communicates those changes, and appropriately adapts the tax compliance process to satisfy those requirements. 5. Serves in a supervisory role with responsibilities to hire, train, and monitor the CHI tax staff. Mentors and develops tax staff via coaching, knowledge sharing, etc. 6. Trains and educates MBO finance staff members who participate in the tax return preparation process by means of web conferences, cluster session presentations, etc. Spearheads the preparation of periodic updates to MBOs and National staff concerning tax developments. 7. Responds to and coordinates responses to taxing authorities in relation to federal, state and local income tax, sales and use, excise, payroll and other tax matters. 8. Assists tax director in completing short-term and long-term tax-related special projects including, for example, evaluation of structuring alternatives for new lines of business, conducting due diligence on acquisitions, and developing and implementing process changes to comply with IRS requirements and accounting pronouncements. Meets with members of other CHI / MBO teams in order to acquire knowledge so as to provide coordinated advice on a variety of issues. 9. Assists director in preparing yearly budget and monitoring spend against budget.
