BASIC PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:. This position is responsible for making color adjustments to shaded liquid paints. The operation will include using a scale to measure the raw material components accurately then and add the materials to the batch in process under a mixer. The Shader will work with Senior Shaders and Color Specialists to learn the fundamentals of the shading process. The Shader will also learn to perform QC testing such as grind, wpg, NVM, viscosity, etc. The Shader is required to use designated equipment in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures to achieve the highest level of quality, safety, efficiency and productivity. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Making adjustments to shaded batches by mixing and measuring each raw material accurately. All tasks are to be performed in accordance with standard operating instructions using safe work practices. Maintain accurate and sufficient inventory levels on Q3R to insure uninterrupted operation of making adjustment(s). Maintain accurate records of materials, quantities, and lot numbers used while making adjustment(s) to the product(s) Performs product testing to internal and/or external specifications and other tests as required on batch test page and/or QC test card. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with Senior Shaders and Color Specialists to learn the fundamentals of the shading process. Responsible for the collection and proper disposal of hazardous waste and maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness in all their respective work areas. Other duties as assigned PROBLEM SOLVING AND ANALYSIS: • The Shader is required to monitor the condition of tint bases and or raw material in Q3R to insure it meets the standard quality before each use. The Shader is responsible for the integrity and quality of each adjustment made to the product. • The Shader must be able to perform non-color and color required tests to batches and have the ability to calculate adjustments to meet internal and/or external specifications using established procedures. OTHER: The Waukegan site produces a wide range of products and batch sizes. This diversity places a great demand on our Shader to pay a great deal of attention to details in order to achieve the strict color and quality standards required in the aerospace businesses. Color appearance is vital to many of our products and is often the first indication of the product’s quality that is visual to a customer or consumer. It is the responsibility of the Shader to see that all colors produced meet the customers/consumers expectations.
