Ensures all services documented in the patient’s chart are coded with the appropriate diagnoses and procedure codes. When services are not documented appropriately, seek to attain proper documentation in a timely manner. Handle occasional billing complaints and questions posed by patients and act as a resource for other clinic and hospital departments. Provide education to physicians and works on a one-on-one basis to explain documentation needs to facilitate documentation improvement. Ensures maximum efficiency and reimbursement for properly documented services. Reviews, modifies, and recommends changes to policies and procedures to improve coding. Informs Manager of changes that should be made to encounter forms. Shares and educates providers with these changes. Tracks and documents EOB activity for trends and works on resolving issues. Works cooperatively with Patient Account Specialists for any denials, rejections, and/or documentation questions. Sends hard copy of all claims that cannot be transmitted electronically. Reviews remittance advices and/or EOB’s to validate correct payment was received and/or determine if adjustment(s) need to be made. Make corrections and re-bill as necessary. Maintain professional competency by keeping credentials active through AAPC or AHIMA. Participate in coding compliance audits. Actively participate in clinic meetings. Comply with all BAMC and department policies, including completion of annual mandatory competencies. Attend all service care training sessions. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must have a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) with current certification or Certified Coding Specialist- Physician-based (CCS-P) with current certification. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) may be substituted. Two-years of physician billing experience is required. Strong familiarity with clinical procedures, medical terminology, ICD-9-CM coding practices, CPT, and data processing/computer skills is required. Must have the ability to work in a team environment, effective communication skills, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. Professionalism, accuracy, dependability and confidentiality are essential. Position requires close attention to detail, good organizational skills, independent decision-making and work planning abilities.
