The plant engineer is to provide plant engineering support to the Howard site in all areas, including safety, process, mechanical, electrical, etc. This person will act as Site Responsible Engineer and as CIM (Continuous Improvement Manager) at the Howard Plant. The plant engineer will be responsible for maintenance of Howard plant including supervisor of maintenance technician, coordination and supervision of external maintenance services (as needed), and will manage loading and shipping activities in Howard including supervision of these staff. The plant engineer will provide support to Howard site for DCS and MES systems and provide detailed engineering and manage future capital projects. This position will also conduct conceptual design, development, and implementation of programs and initiatives as directed. The plant engineer will be a champion of plant wide safety and be an active participant of plant safety initiatives. Responsibilities: Lead plant safety initiatives and facilitate engineering solutions to safety issues. Prepare and execute capital projects. Interpret, implement, all aspects of SAQ related to asset integrity. Provide detailed specialist knowledge for solving equipment, process and control system problems. Acting as CIM, implement continuous improvement program for site, including rollout of ALPS. Provide CI expertise and carry out Brown Belt projects and be involved with ALPS implementation. Provide advice and support for the DCS and MES systems in Howard. Work with the technology group for MES evolution and user support. Develop maintenance program for Howard plant and supervise maintenance staff and contractors in execution of program. Supervise shipping and logistics activities in Howard to meet OTIF targets, and customer requirements. Within the authorization rules for capital and spending approvals this position decides on equipment specifications, contractor selection, maintenance spending, maintenance priorities, utilization of shipping/loading workforce. In the role as DCS/MES specialist this position provides input to upgrades to systems, creates new functionality in MES to meet production plant demands and participates in development of strategy for MES use in Howard. Required to work across all engineering disciplines, each project will require the ability to work with fluids, piping, mechanical, controls, instrumentation, power, DCS configuration. The position applies Plant automation, data collection, Manufacturing Executions systems (Proficy), and uses the data to analyze system operations and optimizations. Data analysis leading to process improvements such as debottlenecking and increased process efficiency. Typical would be to create and implement new DCS programming, MES functionality, create new operator interfaces, trouble shoot automation issues. Set up, modify, trouble shoot computerized maintenance systems. Development and execution of preventive and predictive maintenance programs, as well as the execution of troubleshooting of system failures as encountered. The ability to determine failure modes and the solution to return the process to operation is critical. The plant engineer must be able to find source of problems with the plant equipment (mechanical, electrical, controls etc) and fix it.
