Job Summary : Perform the engineering & design of foundry furnace systems for customer applications involving processing, casting and heating. This role is intimately involved with quoting, oversight, installation & project management for each foundry furnace opportunity within the integrated thermal systems division. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Provide engineered solutions and designs to meet the needs of customers in the foundry die casting industries. Works closely with Supply Chain & Planning to define long lead items, project schedules & all other pertinent information required for a successful foundry furnace project. Coordinate with customers to identify part changes, and obtain the correct drawing. Develops internal pressure tests schedule for production shop with support & “buy-in” from planning & distributes to the Quality Technicians. Develops and coordinates foundry furnace functional test plan for each project as required Is responsible for total project costs for each foundry furnace design. Cost reduction should constantly be looked at and also mitigated by continuous improvement in designs. Material selections are another significant factor on costs that need to be considered for each foundry furnace project being worked on. This role entails setting up kick off meetings, design review meetings, as well as supporting production on understanding scope of each project and throughout the manufacturing build. Develop furnace refractory, insulation and heating designs for foundry furnaces Conduct inspection reports on incoming equipment for refurbish/reline projects. This includes inventorying all pieces and determining the status of steel components and welds. Responsible for providing packing lists to shipping department for foundry furnace projects as required. Analyze thermal & casting requirements for capital equipment and lead design to meet customer process needs. Identify appropriate technologies and techniques to address various market needs Collaborate and work with various internal and external Pyrotek stakeholders to identify existing and new technologies to solve industrial furnace problems Conduct FMEA’s and develop validation tests to mitigate Pyrotek risk, improve business performance and increase project success rate Identifies Project scope changes - this entails filling out change order request sheets to accurately cost and give to the sales Engineer of Project Manager of the project for Pricing and change order from the customer Assist Pyrotek sales engineers in preparation and presenting technical solutions to customer’s problems Troubleshoot any design/manufacturing issues internally or externally for foundry furnaces that may arise. Create Formal Quote proposals for the sales force on all foundry furnace opportunities. Lead a weekly conference call with the Foundry Division Manager and Sales Engineers to communicate scheduling, ship estimates, installation, and advanced notice of opportunities/contracts. Lead the foundry furnace design team to ensure all required designs, drawings, materials are accurate to the specification, cost and also are on schedule. Interface with the electrical controls department during projects as needed. Write the Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manuals for each system. Assist purchasing/warehouse in identifying incoming parts. Coordinating with vendors to get accurate and timely quotes and to communicate long lead time items to Supply Chain & Planning. Provide installation and start-up services. Willing to travel to help supervise installations or be technical support on site Education and/or Experience : Minimum Qualifications: BSME from ABET accredited university with minimum 7 years engineering experience designing engineering solutions for capital equipment manufacturers in the Thermal, Heating, and/or Burner controls industries. *** No candidates holding a 4 mechanical engineering technology degree will be considered for this position unless they have a minimum 15 years’ experience directly related to the position and are functioning currently as a Senior Staff Engineer. Preferred Qualifications: MSME from an ABET accredited university with a minimum 10 - 15 years engineering experience as a senior engineer leading projects developing solutions to furnace control and hot metal industry mechanical equipment industries. Candidate has 15 years recent experience in the hot materials industry (foundry, smelting, steel, aluminum, glass, sintered metals, heat treatment, foundry etc.) or working for a company that provides services to these industries. Experience designing and building furnace and refractory systems utilizing various burner, insulation and refractory systems and materials for high temperature applications. Experience with furnace control system installation, set-up, commissioning and tuning Candidate has extensive (>8 years) project management experience for complex electrical control projects Candidate is PMP certified Minimum 5 years’ experience with Autodesk Inventor preferable current with version 2012. Review and enhance collections training programs, incentive/compensation programs, and related controls. Coordinate audit and operations of audit plans, programs, results and modifications to policy and procedures, where needed Perform Risk assessments Centralize and maintain oversight of Inventory of all applicable laws related to collections operations.
