Details: BASIC FUNCTION : Performs a lead role in various functions within the plant accounting department, such as variance analysis and remediation, book-to-perpetual adjustment analysis, inventory, the monthly closing process, and various projects, and daily accounting duties. KEY Responsibilities: Gather, analyze, reconcile, review, record, report, and test for reasonableness a large assortment of cost data. Analyze a large range of JD Edwards (E1) Work Order data and resulting variances versus standard Analyze inventory movement and prepare adjustment journal entries as necessary, and subsequent posting to the general ledger. In-depth analysis of E1 variance journal entries and account activity for trends, performing follow-up and making corrections as determined to be necessary. Review automated journal entries for reasonableness/accuracy each month. Develop & propose methods to improve current journal entry and month-end close processes in order to increase accuracy and efficiency in reporting. Effectively communicate new methods and to take a lead in their implementation (such as by meeting with management, C.I., I.T., and others needed to assist in process change execution). Prepare a large variety of Cost Accounting reports (mostly on a weekly/monthly basis) and distribute to end-users, with the ability to identify cost drivers on a specific General Ledger account; investigate and answer detailed questions that may arise on such reports; and regularly analyze cost and expense accounts for reasonableness. Act as plant contact for a large group of La-Z-Boy plants and divisions, answering questions from these locations and verifying journal entries booked. Some involvement in annual standard setting and year-end inventory efforts: take a more proactive role in these efforts than an Accountant I would, and leverage on experience to take a lead rather than just following instructions. Involvement with standard setting and inventory will likely include limited travel to other plant locations during those time periods to assist either as an auditor or as a temporary assistant to the plant controller. Might be required to visit another plant location for purposes of training during certain “slower" time in the year, allowing the plant to benefit from the corporate (Monroe) experience, as well as getting a chance to learn other plant best processes. Complete a variety of projects as they arise, requiring problem identification and solving skills and follow-through for corrective action. May ultimately be asked to act as an ‘expert’ resource on behalf of the Cost department on a cross-functional team, or in certain communications with other departments/plants. Act as a back-up person to payroll administrator when the need arises. Employee will actively participate in and observe prescribed occupational safety and health practices.
