Sen. Ron Johnson: "national forest harvest not problem, problems have very difficult solutions."

FOREST COUNTY - Forest and timber leaders in Northern Wisconsin hosted Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) in Forest County Tuesday. The group of timber experts was touring areas of the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest (CNNF).

Both of Wisconsin's senators toured forests and forest industries in the north over the last two days.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) toured wood products businesses in Laona on Monday.

Some Rhinelander High School Students to get Chromebooks this upcoming school year

RHINELANDER - Some students in the School District of Rhinelander will get Chromebooks starting this school year.

Freshman and sophomores at Rhinelander High School will get the computers to use at school and at home.

Some elementary and middle school students will also get to use them in the classroom.

Ranger III used for ballast water cleansing test

HOUGHTON, MI - Technicians have used a vessel that hauls passengers to Isle Royale National Park for testing a refined treatment method to rid ships' ballast water of invasive species.

Isle Royale Superintendent Phyllis Green says a marine engineering firm used the M/V Ranger III last weekend to try out prototype equipment for mixing chemicals that can kill organisms in ballast tanks.

DNR decision to allow new piers at Northwoods condo development challenged

EAGLE RIVER - Condo owners at the Wild Eagle Lodge in Eagle River hoped to install new piers this summer that would accommodate more boats, but that now seems unlikely.

Right now, they only have 40 boat slips on Duck and Lynx Lakes for more than 75 condos.

The DNR granted the group's request for 20 more boat slips in June.

Dozens demonstrate in support of Michael Brown

MILWAUKEE - Dozens of people rallied in downtown Milwaukee to show solidarity for demonstrators in Ferguson, Missouri who are demanding justice for Michael Brown, the black teenager killed by a police officer.

More than 100 people stopped traffic at a major intersection in downtown Milwaukee and a highway ramp Sunday and rallied at a park where 31-year-old Dontre Hamilton was recently shot and killed by a Milwaukee police officer.

CSA members tour Evergood Farm

SUGAR CAMP - Some people search for fresh fruits and vegetables at the store or farmers market, but others have the privilege of it being boxed and delivered. Sunday, a small group of people had the chance to see exactly where their food comes from.

Evergood Farm in Sugar Camp gave a tour to Community Supported Agriculture members. This was their way of thanking them for supporting a locally owned farm.

New degree program at Nicolet College gives students an edge in manufacturing industry

RHINELANDER - Students at Nicolet College can now get a degree in electromechanical technology. It's a brand new degree program that teaches people how to work with computer controlled mechanical systems.

The school is offering the program because a lot of local manufacturers need technicians that can work with automated assembly machines.

Legislative Fiscal Bureau says Medicaid expansion would have saved Wisconsin $206 million

MADISON - A new report says Wisconsin would have saved about $206 million if Republican Gov. Scott Walker had decided to expand Medicaid coverage under the new federal health care law.

Under the Affordable Care Act, the federal government would pay the entire cost of expanding Medicaid to cover everyone earning up to 138 percent of the poverty level through 2016.
