MADISON - Wisconsin wildlife officials are reminding hunters that the state's new extended mourning dove season will begin next week.
Hunters will be allowed to kill the state's official peace symbol from Sept. 1 through Nov. 29. That's 20 days longer than previous seasons.
MADISON - The latest Marquette University Law School poll shows Gov. Scott Walker and Democratic challenger Mary Burke remain in a dead heat.
The latest results released Wednesday show little movement in the race with 10 weeks until Election Day. Polls in May and July also showed the race to be essentially tied.
LAND O' LAKES - A local art league in Land O' Lakes will soon open their art exhibit to the public.
The Headwaters Art League will put on the exhibit at the Gateway Lodge on County Road B. A reception will be held from 4 to 6 pm on Friday. The group leaders want to use the event to promote communication between local artists.
ANTIGO - The School District of Antigo will see a lot of new faces this fall.
The district hired 26 new teachers this year.
They lost so many teachers last year because of retirements and teachers leaving for bigger districts.
The White House says President Barack Obama will travel to Milwaukee on Monday to speak at a Labor Day event. It gave no specifics about the event.
A spokesman for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke said she will attend Laborfest on Monday. Burke won't take the stage with President Obama.
RHINELANDER - Rhinelander's first-ever PotatoFest last year started as a charity fundraiser and way to recognize the potato's importance in our area.
After last year's success, the event will expand even more this weekend.
PotatoFest features a parade, eating and cooking contests, live music all day, and the YMCA Couch Potato Race.
RHINELANDER - Starting high school can be scary for incoming freshmen. One Northwoods high school wanted to help freshman before they start school.
Rhinelander High School held their freshman orientation Thursday. New students got the chance to do team building, get their Chromebooks and tour the school.
RHINELANDER - You can find a new option for coffee, gas and groceries in the Northwoods.
Kwik Trip opened its doors in Rhinelander.
It's a family-owned gas station and convenience store chain out of LaCrosse.
MINOCQUA - The Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce just welcomed a new executive director.
Krystal Westfahl started in the position August 21st.
She comes to the Northwoods from Appleton.
WISCONSIN - A poll shows strong support for a new tribal casino in Kenosha.
The Marquette University Law School poll released Wednesday shows 49 percent support the casino while 35 percent oppose it.
WAUSAU - A new exhibit in Wausau will show the art/ graffiti and tell the stories of Vietnam veterans. The art shows drawings from troops on bed canvases of the General Nelson Walker troop carrier.
Christine Martens works with the Marathon County Historical Society and believes the pieces will give people a better look at what it was like for veterans.
MADISON - Leaders from southeastern Wisconsin and Democratic state lawmakers say Gov. Scott Walker should immediately approve the Menominee tribe's proposed casino in Kenosha because it would put people back to work.
They came together Wednesday to put pressure on Walker to approve the casino.
WHITE LAKE - A local Langlade County business will soon move its headquarters from White Lake to Antigo.
Owners of Wolf River Valley Seeds bought the building on the corner of 3rd Avenue and Edison Street in Antigo earlier this month. The company is known for producing high quality forage seeds to help provide nutrition for dairy cows. They are also a leading producer of the highly nutritious triticale seed.
CRANDON - Almost four years ago, Shanice Stands thought she had backed up her car over a skateboard in a Forest County driveway.
She had instead hit her three-year-old brother.
He later died.
NORTHWOODS - Before the flurries fly, important preparations need to happen for snowmobile trails.

The main focus is cleaning and organizing equipment.
MICHIGAN'S U.P. - The Michigan Legislature has cleared the way to allow continued hunting of gray wolves, a species that once had disappeared from the state but now thrives in the Upper Peninsula.
The state House voted 65-43 Wednesday in favor of a citizen-initiated measure that would empower the Michigan Natural Resources Commission to designate game species and regulate hunting.
ONEIDA COUNTY - A Chippewa Falls man faces more than 12 years in prison if convicted of driving under the influence for the 10th time.
An Oneida County Sheriff's deputy stopped 43-year-old Edward Luedke just before 8 p.m. on August 22nd.
Court documents say the deputy noticed an SUV weaving in its lane and crossing the center line on Highway 17 near Hat Rapids Road.
MILWAUKEE - Slain U.S. journalist James Foley is being remembered as a person committed to social justice and as a modest friend who deflected questions about himself.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/VQatzQ ) that Father Fred Zagone, the chaplain for the Marquette University Alumni Association, said at a vigil Tuesday that Foley cited the resonance of the Jesuit resolve he learned there after he was captured for the first time in Libya in 2011.
RHINELANDER - The accidental death of a shooting instructor in Arizona raises questions about what kinds of guns children should learn to shoot.
A 9-year-old girl was learning how to fire a fully-automatic weapon on Monday. The recoil was too much for her to handle. As a result, she ended up firing several rounds uncontrollably and one of the rounds hit her instructor in the head.
RHINELANDER - Police think Michael Schettino pointed a handgun at another driver on Highway 51 in May. Police say he then drove through the parking lot of MHLT Elementary school in Minocqua. The school was put on lockdown because of what happened.
Schettino was in court Wednesday. He took a plea agreement. His two misdemeanors could be dismissed if he follows the terms of the agreement for two years.
RHINELANDER - Going back to school takes a lot of time and money, but there's another way you can get a step up in your career without stepping in the classroom.
Leadership Oneida County is a nine month course offered to people who strive to be leaders. About 100 graduates of the course come from various backgrounds but have the same reason to take it.
RHINELANDER - Students going back to school could see some changes to what food they can buy at school.
New food requirements went into effect over the summer.
One of those is changes to what kinds of snacks students can buy.
VILAS COUNTY - Investigators think new photos will help find 38-year-old Eric Hall.
Vilas County deputies believe he has stolen multiple cars, committed several burglaries, was involved in a high speed chase, and assaulted a police officer since he was released from prison in June 2014.
SHAWANO COUNTY - The man who held a Wittenberg McDonald's employee hostage in April will spend more than 26 years in a mental institution.
Tuesday, a judge sentenced 29-year-old gunman Travis Keiler of Gillett to 26 and a half years in a mental institution.
Keiler had been found not guilty by mental disease or defect for taking hostages and failing to comply with an officer.
MILWAUKEE - Gogebic Taconite will take longer than originally planned to apply for a mining permit in northern Wisconsin.
The company says its application to develop an iron ore mine in Ashland and Iron counties will be pushed back until at least the fall of next year.
MADISON - Turnout for Wisconsin's primary elections two weeks ago was even lower than state election officials predicated.
The state Government Accountability Board had predicted turnout would be 15 percent of eligible voters. The agency released figures Tuesday showing the official turnout for the Aug. 12 elections was 12.7 percent.
PHELPS - Voters in Vilas County didn't want ATV's or UTV's on County roads or property in 2004. Tuesday, the County Board was considering asking voters about that topic again.
That won't happen. The county board voted 14 to 5 not to put an ATV question on this fall's ballot.
MADISON - The Forest County Potawatomi say they have not made their annual revenue sharing payment to the state of Wisconsin for their casino in Milwaukee because they anticipate the state will owe them money if Gov. Scott Walker approves a casino in Kenosha.
The Potawatomi released a statement Tuesday after Walker's office sent out an update on the casino project that noted the tribe had missed its payment. The tribe says the money has been placed in a segregated account.
WAUSAU - Jessica Strom will spend about three years in prison for offering a man $1,000 and sex to kill her fiance.
The 33 year old Merrill woman was sentenced Tuesday.
"Out of the billions of people that could potentially be partners in life [the] two of you chose the single worst combination," says Circuit Court Judge Neal Nielsen.
EAGLE RIVER - You might have noticed a different type of aircraft flying over the Northwoods Monday.
A 1945 B-25 J Mitchell Bomber landed at the Eagle River airport.
Along with it came some history on what that type of airplane did during World War II.
