Details: POSITION SCOPE: Spare Hands are the entry-level position within the Nicolet Mill. They are responsible for providing support to multiple departments and areas of the Nicolet Mill. They perform tasks involving physical labor which includes operating paper mill equipment, including a variety of material handling equipment and tools. Spare hands work rotating 12-hour shifts and overtime is required. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist equipment operators on the paper machines, supercalenders, pulpers and converting equipment. Maintain a clean job site: clean up around paper-making and paper converting equipment, and pick up all tools and equipment each day in order to eliminate potential hazards. Haul and hoist materials via powered industrial trucks and cranes; load and unload material from machines. Read and apply Safe Stand Operating Procedures (SSOP’s) in order to create a quality product in a safe manner. Apply safety standards/safety absolutes on a continuous basis. Assist with quality inspections. Basic data entry into the applicable computer systems. Participate in safety improvements throughout the facility; these include improving existing procedures, improving guarding, etc. An open door policy exists throughout the organization; open communication is encouraged.
