Provide step-by-step instructions on operation of equipment, performance of tests and criteria for accepting results. • Ensure that the Blood Bank Dept. meets/exceeds all requirement of JCAHO, CAP, FDA and American Association of Blood Banks. Accompany inspectors and provide data during inspection by the above agencies. • Work with nursing service to coordinate policies and procedures for administration of blood and blood products. • Compile QI reviews data, summarize and report. Research problems and concerns of committee. • Develop and maintain Quality Plan for Transfusion Service. • Build, validate and maintain Blood Bank Computer Database, making modifications as necessary. Test and validate all new overlays and upgrade for blood bank module • Consult with pathologists, clinicians and hospital staff concerning test results, problem and special test requests. • Research records for Clinical Auditor, Quality Improvement Dept. and Risk Management • Maintain adequate blood product inventory, ensuring that blood products are available to fill request • Maintain supplies, negotiate with vendors regarding equipment/supplies cost and purchase • Evaluate, review and recommend new or replacement of test procedures/equipment • Technically supervise all employees working in blood bank • Instruct, in-service and train all new technologists rotating through blood bank • Evaluate performance and give competency tests yearly to technologist working in blood bank • Council employees as needed on performance • Review patient results for all shifts. Document, correct, and council employees on any variation from SOP • Consultation for antibody problem resolution 2. Performs blood bank procedures both manually and automated in accordance with established policy and procedures.
