CORE COMPETENCIES Teamwork - Is an effective team player who adds complementary skills and contributes valuable ideas, opinions and feedback. Communicates in an open and candid manner and can be counted upon to fulfill any commitments made to others on the team. This is distinctly different from those who withhold ideas and opinions, offer ideas or opinions that rarely add value to team discussions, have established a track record with many unmet commitments, and/or have not contributed skills that complement the skills of others on the team. Establishing Focus - Establishes a clear and realistic sense of direction by clarifying organizational goals as well as how employee roles and responsibilities contribute to them. Ensures that departmental goals match those of the larger organization and that resources are allocated to meet priorities. Maintains staff motivation and focus on goals and priorities throughout the year. This is in contrast to those who leave goals and expectations unclear, fail to dovetail unit goals with those of the organization or fail to align resources and day-to-day focus in a manner that facilitates goal achievement. Integrity - Acts in ways that demonstrate personal integrity and serves as a positive example of why others should trust the motives of the organization. Views himself or herself as a reflection of the organization by following through on commitments and accepting ownership of any mistakes he or she might make. Leaves others with the clear impression that integrity is a core value at this organization. This is in contrast to individuals who make commitments that go unmet, fail to acknowledge their role in disappointing events, or whose actions (or inaction) leave others with doubts about the level of trust that should be placed in the organization. Quality of Work - Has established a track record of producing work that is highly accurate, demonstrates attention to detail and reflects well on the organization. Is personally committed to high quality work and encourages others to have similar standards. POSITION SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES Cost Awareness - Demonstrates an ongoing awareness of budget levels and the ramifications of exceeding them. Regularly tracks expenses against budget projections to ensure that spending levels can be adjusted as necessary. Cost-conscious and tends to stay within budget. Product Knowledge - Has a good understanding of product line features and benefits and uses that knowledge to optimize sales with each customer. Understands the product market and uses this knowledge to increase personal credibility and product sales. Keeps abreast of competitors' activities and typically responds quickly to what the competition is doing. This is in contrast to missing opportunities due to a limited knowledge of features and benefits across the product line, a lack of understanding of the market, and/or a lack of attention to what competitors are doing. Negotiation Skills - Demonstrates the ability to negotiate compromises that leave various stakeholders feeling that their interests and positions have been understood and that the resulting solution is even-handed and fair to all parties. Accomplishes this through listening to differing points of view and taking each view into account. Looks for common interests and helps parties explore and reach middle-ground solutions. This contrasts favorably with negotiation tactics or strategies that seem to favor one party's interests or positions over another and leave one or more individuals feeling that they were not heard and that they gave up more than they gained in the process. Communication - Communicates effectively and appropriately. Uses good judgment as to what to communicate to whom as well as the best way to get that accomplished. Speaks in a clear and credible manner, selecting the right tone for the situation and audience. Listens to others and allows them to make their point. This is quite different than those who tend to select the wrong means of communicating, or who communicate information to inappropriate people. It also contrasts with those whose messages are not clear or lack credibility, as well as those who demonstrate poor listening skills and are unreceptive to feedback. Planning - Develops the steps necessary to accomplish long-term goals. Identifies long and short-term goals and establishes realistic plans to reach them. Allocates required resources, allows for contingencies and ensures that plans fit with the larger needs of the organization. Sets milestones to measure progress along the way. This is distinctly different from individuals who ignore long-term or short-term goals, fail to link their goals to broader initiatives, have not set realistic plans that allow for contingencies, and/or ignore the importance of milestones that could enhance motivation in the pursuit of long-term plans. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE An Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology and at least four (4) years progressive electrical engineering related experience with two to five (2-5) years experience in purchasing lighting equipment; or A Bachelor Degree in Architectural Engineering and two to five (2-5) years experience in purchasing lighting; or A Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering and three to five (3-5) years of lighting design and related experience in lighting specifications, layouts and details; or Any appropriate combination of education and experience as determined by management.
