Laboratory Technician

Details: Laboratory Technician Wisconsin’s largest ice cream company has an excellent opportunity for a dependable, detail oriented second shift lab technician to join our growing company and quality team. Duties and responsibilities for this second shift position include: Summary : Under the management of the Food Safety Manager, Laboratory Technicians are responsible for the safe and efficient performance of laboratory tests and operations of laboratory machines and/or equipment. Laboratory Technicians ensure that all food safety, quality assurance, and GMP policies and procedures are strictly adhered to during the production of finished goods within the manufacturing facility. Laboratory Technicians must have the ability to run multiple quality tests with limited supervision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time Safely and efficiently preform laboratory tests and operate laboratory machines and/or equipment. Laboratory equipment is used to perform laboratory tasks such as micro testing, butterfat/total solids testing, metal detector/x-ray challenges, washouts, and production process line over sight Verify the calibration of lab equipment (CEM, scales, pH meter, thermometers, etc) Conduct sensory evaluations on liquid dairy and finished product, record results Laboratory Technicians may be required to start laboratory equipment, make equipment adjustments when necessary, and perform routine maintenance of the equipment throughout the production run. This includes the diagnoses of minor operation troubles or equipment malfunction. Assist maintenance staff in the diagnoses of equipment issues and troubleshooting situations Place finished product on “HOLD" status when results fall outside of acceptable ranges Be able to conduct required environmental testing as directed by the Food Safety Manager Ensure that all ingredients and packaging are handled within the manufacturing facility in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations, internal food safety requirements, and organic requirements and in accordance to regulatory standards that are established by GMP, OSHA, FDA, WDATCP and USDA Audit the day-to-day quality and food safety activities Communicate and work with production to ensure quality expectations are achieved Ensures the presence, accuracy, and legibility of required information on all laboratory documentation. This includes testing and sample lot code information; ingredient and packaging quantity information; in process fill weight checks; in process lot code verification; production process; and any abnormalities that occur during a production run Oversee that the formulations are followed according Mix Instruction Sheet to ensure that all inclusions and sauces are incorporated into finished goods in accordance to formulation and standards. This consists of continuous evaluation of inclusion and sauce feed rates of ingredient feeders, vibratory, and sauce pumps Laboratory Technicians are required to be trained to become proficient in the operations of multiple laboratory machines and multiple laboratory processes In laboratory spare time situations, technicians will be required to clean and sanitize laboratory equipment and laboratory room area Provide backup to other technicians and laboratory personnel during peak times, vacations, absences, etc Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Safety Manager or management from time to time
