Proper handling, cell viability/maintenance and passaging of cell lines is vital, including cryogenic freezing methods. These cell lines are to be used in assays for the release of specialty products. The ability to detect and remedy problems within a cell assay is very important. This position interacts with all functional groups within Manufacturing and Sterilization. This position reports directly to the Microbiology Lab Supervisor. Day to Day Responsibilities: Executes/maintains microbiological testing finished products such as sterility testing, pyrogen testing, bioburden test, PML and DQA. Performs cell culture handling, viability/maintenance, passaging for testing of finished products to determine the functionality of the finished product. Develop, designs and writes Standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions (WI), test procedures and verification/qualification protocols for products/materials testing and for equipment. Develop and validate methods such as Bacteriostasis and Fungistasis test inhibition and enhancement test. Compiles method validation reports. Performs enumeration of Biological indicators. Maintains user logs and BI history data. Execute and maintain the environmental monitoring program including the coordination of cleanroom certification and associated personnel qualification. Maintains environmental isolates and identifies environmental isolates from clean rooms. Schedules/coordinates/performs assigned projects, compiles test data, writes summary reports and final reports. Helps in setting up new microbiology laboratory assays/methods (test method validation). Provide technical guidance and educational training to manufacturing in the area of microbiological testing, environmental and aseptic practices. Work closely with the QA Manager to review technical problems, suggest solutions and anticipate major problems to key operations. Coordinate analysis of microbial and environmental product/process problems using communications with production personnel and laboratory. Perform and report trend analyses of laboratory test results, lot failures, DHR review and product release. Assists/performs internal audits, if required. Perform other tasks as assigned.
