Details: Responsible for assisting residents with activities of daily living in order to promote resident independence and dignity. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Follow resident assignment schedule as made out by charge nurse, or Unit Manager. This requires the ability to be mentally alert and communicate verbally and in writing information regarding resident's condition and care. 2. Lift, move and transfer residents as required. Check and reposition residents every two- (2) hours or more frequently as instructed. This involves the ability to safely transfer residents who cannot bear their own weight. It also involves the ability to safely perform movements such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching and lifting in excess of 150 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations. Manual dexterity required performing tasks in assisting residents with their personal needs. 3. Bathe, shower, shampoo, shave, comb hair, dress appropriately, nail care (routine fingernails and toe nails,) of any residents assigned. Empties Foley catheter bags, records amount and type. Give perineal care according to policy. Willingness and ability to tolerate washing hands with soap frequently throughout the date. 7. Observe all residents and report anything unusual or abnormal to Charge Nurse. Ability to safely care for residents in a patient and respectful manner despite some resident's lack of cooperation and/or combativeness. 8. Follow safety guidelines. Promptly remove and clean up urine or bowel excretions and other spills or safety hazards. 9. Regularly bends, stoops and crouches to assist with ambulation and Range of Motion exercises to maintain or improve resident's level of functioning. 10. Take vital signs, weight, and collect specimen's give colostomy care and/or catheter care. 11. Clean wheelchairs, beds, nursing equipment, resident personal hygiene items, and other items as directed. Requires the ability to lift at least 25 pounds and remove assistive devices to clean properly. 12. Safely utilize equipment. Report any equipment needing service or repair immediately. 13. Participate in emergency fire or disaster drills and other in-service training as scheduled. Must be able to safely ascend and descend stairwells and assist in an evacuation. 14. Assist in care of a resident after death. 15. Follow Universal Safety Precautions in order to protect one self, residents and other staff members. Rinse soiled linen in preparation to be sent to the laundry this involves the capability to withstand strong foul odors and the ability to tolerate wearing necessary personal protective equipment. Willingness and ability to wear, tolerate and use protective clothing and equipment needed in the carrying out of duties, i.e. latex gloves. 16. Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance in accordance with facility absence policies. Perform special duties as assigned. Monitor instruments, needles, and sponges before, during, and after procedures to ensure correct count. d. Maintain clean and orderly Operating Room in accordance with doctor's preference and established standards, ensure that routine supplies are available for surgical procedures. e. Inspect instrument packs to ensure they include required items, arrange instruments, sutures and linen in proper order for procedure. f. Assist in the care, processing, and handling of equipment, instruments, and supplies. 2. Perform duties including: ensure instrument functionality, store instruments and supplies, monitor dated packs, order linens and other supplies, test equipment, etc. a. Inventory and maintain inventory levels for stock instruments and equipment, provide a back-up supply of instruments used, replacing them as needed; receive and store instruments properly; and communicate, according to department procedure when instruments and equipment are required for replacement stock. b. Maintain records of supplies used and ensure stock supply checklist is noted per established department procedure. c. Ensure proper wrapping, sealing and labeling of instruments, supplies and equipment for sterilization; label each tray appropriately as a preparation for sterilization. d. Responsible for proper care, labeling and handling of specimens and cultures as directed by the professional nurse on the surgical team. 3. Other activities in support of department operations. a. Observe and report new symptoms of adverse reactions of patients to a professional staff member. Take appropriate action in life threatening situations. b. Assist in positioning, moving and transporting patients to and from the Operating Room. c. Seek appropriate resource person for guidance and assistance according to established procedures and guidelines. d. Provide and maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, physicians, and employees.
