We are seeking a passionate, energetic and positive thinking Specialty Food Merchant with a strong track record of success sourcing, curating, developing and marketing upper end Retail or Specialty Food categories. Essential Functions • Conduct daily tastings of all types of foods and cuisines • Researching emerging trends and building Food assortments best representing the BBB Brand Promise • Sourcing branded, and developing exclusive, new Food products, nationally and internationally • Act as a Food Ambassador across the BBB divisions, promoting the growth and operations development for a new and burgeoning business • Negotiate with small, Specialty Food suppliers and artisans, both domestic and international, on availability, ingredient profiles, product attributes, distribution, delivery deadlines and price • Establish department direction and priorities, and communicate effectively to merchant team and field organization • Cross create with Food Development, Marketing, Graphics, Visual, Packaging, Operations and Inter-brand Divisions to produce and market world-class, Specialty Food assortments • Train, motivate and develop the team to ensure passion and excitement in everything we do, including effective performance and growth • Partner with and guide Planning on the forecasting and delivery of assortments to maximize the profitability and growth • Develop and maintain a strong relationship, built on trust and respect, with our suppliers • Manage vendor performance to maximize profitability and achieve financial objectives • Perform market analysis, competitive shop and analyze sales trends • Travel to store locations to review product mix, obtain feedback, and share information • Be hungry for feedback from our store associates to constantly be improving product • Investigate and respond to field issues with urgency, and coordinate communication strategies with the Food Operations Team and the Field Organization. •Travel domestically and internationally as needed • You love Food, Cuisine preparation and the business of selling and marketing Specialty Foods and Ingredients • Multiple category experience strongly preferred • 5-8 years' experience as a Merchant for a premium branded Specialty Retailer, or Specialty Food Retailer •Decision making, excellent communication skills, strong analytical and PC skills (especially Excel) •Bachelor's degree preferred: additional degree in Fashion, Retail or a Food related major a plus
