Department: Site Protection-Tech Staff - 60129 Position Summary: On a 24 hour/7 day work schedule consisting of various shift times, the Site Protection Mechanic provides around-the-clock campus-wide, initial responder service for emergency, urgent, and routine events related to life safety, access control and security systems. The position will also be the initial responder, providing multi-trades support, to a wide range of campus events during the shift. With a minimum of oversight, the position will perform the following duties. Assignments to other related maintenance tasks will be based on overall shop work load requirements. Perform both preventive maintenance and regulatory compliance testing to campus life safety and facilities related systems. Includes responsibility to troubleshoot, maintain and provide repairs to life safety related systems, including fire alarms, fire suppression, access controls and others. Work independently from computerized maintenance-management system (Maximo CMMS) generated work orders. Respond immediately to any emergency or urgent events involving fire alarms, fire suppression, life safety, access control, environmental and other facilities related events. Troubleshoot, provide emergency repairs, and coordinate response and related communications as needed. Be the initial responder to facilities-related events of a routine nature as directed, and provide basic multi-trade services to the campus after normal University business hours. Make decisions regarding the need for additional skilled-trade intervention. Follow up on communication necessary to assure appropriate resolution of issues (use of Maximo CMMS). Performs other duties as assigned, which may include, but are not limited to support of other trade shops as needed, overtime assignments and response to emergency repairs during off-schedule hours. A University cell phone and two-way radio are to be utilized at all times during working hours for communication purposes.
