Council may act on Sartori funds, more

The Antigo Common Council is expected to move forward with some economic assistance for the big Sartori Company expansion when it meets Wednesday. Aldermen will convene at 6 p.m. in the chambers at City Hall. Leading the agenda will be approval of an economic development incentive for land acquisition and infrastructure improvements for Sartori Company, which produced artisan cheeses at its plant off Morse St. Full story: Antigo Daily Journal

Hunter pleads guilty to drug charge here

An Antigo man linked to a drug investigation involving the sale of massive quantities of both cocaine and marijuana has entered into a plea agreement with federal authorities.

John M. Hunter, 35, entered a plea of guilt Friday to a charge of conspiracy to contribute controlled substances during a hearing in the United States District Court in Green Bay.

Bail set for alleged repeat drunk driver

Bail was set in Langlade County Circuit Court this week at $3,500 cash for an Antigo man arrested Jan. 31 for his sixth offense of driving while intoxicated. James R. Livermore, 55, of 216 Second Ave. was arrested for the crime, plus a charge of driving with a revoked license, when police spotted and stopped a pickup truck equipped with a plow emitting sparks as it scraped across the pavement. 25-ton weight limit placed on Pearson bridge

The Langlade County Highway Department has posted a 25-ton weight restriction on the County Highway T bridge over the Wolf River, just west of Pearson. During a scheduled routine check, the county's certified bridge inspector found significant corrosion on steel piles which support the bridge deck, and an engineering firm performed structural analysis to determine the effect on the capacity of the structure. Two Antigo athletes caught up in National Signing Day ceremonies

Today’s National Signing Day offers two Antigo High School Red Robin football players a “dream come true moment” as Blake Kirsch and Josh Hale pen their John Hancock on their respective Letters of Intent. Kirsch, a son of Steve and Jamie Kirsch, will become a Cougar for the Division Two University of Sioux Falls, while Hale, a son of Denise and the late Curt Hale, is destined to be a Coyote at the Division One University of South Dakota. Couple's activities draw attention of law officers

A young couple may be better off in staying home following their second contact with law officers in a matter of days. The pair, a 20-year-old Antigo woman and a 21-year-old man from Lily, were questioned when a Langlade County sheriff’s deputy checked their activity after spotting a vehicle parked at the end of Nickle Road Monday night. Local pair arrested on drug counts during visits to area lake

Two area residents were jailed on drug charges Saturday night after a Langlade County sheriff’s deputy checked on suspicious activity near the boat landing at Mueller’s Lake in Polar. The deputy noted that the pair’s vehicle smelled of burned marijuana and although the couple initially denied possession of the substance, a search revealed otherwise. Area woman charged with drug offenses

Bail was set at $1,000 cash here Tuesday for an Antigo woman arrested on drug charges less than 24 hours after she made a court appearance for similar criminal offenses. Brittany M. Schroeder, 23, of 1009 Seventh Ave. was charged in Langlade County Circuit Court with three felonies — possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and bail jumping. Dr. Childs, interim chief at Antigo school district, will stay another year

Interim Administrator Dr. Don Childs will remain at the helm of the Antigo school district for another year. At its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, the board of education extended its agreement with Childs through the 2014-15 school year, continuing his salary for an 80 percent contract at $120,000 annually. Winter taking toll on state, schools, student make-up days looming

JOHNSON Associated Press An unrelenting chill prompted districts across Wisconsin to cancel classes Tuesday, a decision that means many schools will have to tack on additional days to the end of the school year. At Antigo, Interim District Administrator Dr. Don Childs said today that, so far, local schoolchildren will see their school year extended from Wednesday, June 4 to Thursday, June 5. Woman jailed hours after court appearance

Hours after her courtroom appearance Monday on charges linked to the suspected use of methamphetamine, an Antigo woman was arrested again today on drug-related allegations. The 23-year-old was taken into custody after a Langlade County sheriff’s deputy executed a traffic stop on her car on Neva Road shortly before 2 a.m. According to reports, a search of her vehicle turned up findings of illegal activity. Former Langlade County deputy faces sentencing on sex charge at April hearing

A former Langlade County sheriff’s deputy faces up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree sexual assault of a child.

Michael Brayton, 26, of Gleason appeared in Marathon County Circuit Court Monday, agreeing to a plea bargain that saw him admit to guilt on one charge in return for 21 other felonies being dismissed.
