Database Platform Administrator

The Database Platform Administrator designs, develops, implements, and installs defined database systems and maintains enterprise level database systems in a multi server environment. Must be able to troubleshoot and correct database problems and to proactively maintain the health of database systems. Creates backup/recovery utilities according to defined standards. Codes and implements stored procedures and triggers. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. In this role, incumbent will gain experience and knowledge to evolve from focusing on single/defined database systems to multiple database systems with broader interdependencies. Job Duties • Designs, implements, and maintains moderately complex database systems. Maintains enterprise level database, ETL, data quality, and MDM systems. • Install, upgrade and configure less complex database management system software. • Troubleshoots and resolves database problems, escalating more complex issues to senior level DBAs. • Create, support and maintain backups and validate running as scheduled. Resolve most backup issues and escalate complex issues to more experienced team members. May write back-up scripts. • Reviews Database usage & provides analysis to management for system improvements and enhancements. Makes recommendations for improvements and enhancements. • Monitors capacity and performance, and proactively resolve problems. • May maintain database dictionaries and integration of systems through database design. Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or IT related field, or equivalent work experience. 2-5 years of directly related experience. Solid knowledge of one or more database management systems to install, upgrade, configure, design, develop, implement, secure,tune, monitor and maintain required database objects. Solid knowledge of database design to produce sound logical and physical data models. Knowledge of SQL, scripting and other coding techniques to code scripts, stored procedures and triggers. Experience with varied forms of data design, suchas online transaction processing, online analytical processing, datawarehousing, operational data stores, and decision support systems. Strong analytical skills Ability to understand and analyze system independencies, data structures, and data models. Major Responsibilities/Activities (List in order of importance the essential functions of the job): • Ascertains needs, plans, present and coordinates training programs encompassing first aid, fire, respiratory protection, hazardous communication, noise, personal protective equipment, emergency procedures and evacuation, etc. • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials. • Investigate accidents to identify causes and to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future. • Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices, in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations. • Collaborate with maintenance personnel and/or engineer to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment. • Conduct safety training and education programs, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment. • Provide new-employee health and safety orientations, and develop materials for these presentations. • Conducts plant safety inspections to assure compliance with laws, regulations and policies. • Tracks safety goal progress, and provides management with safety statistics/reports for evaluating the effectiveness of the safety program and determining areas that need improvement and attention • Maintains required records such as OSHA 300, Workers' Compensation reports, etc. • Schedules industrial hygiene surveys, reviews results and implements suggestions, as required. • Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations. • Prepares and submits environmental permits and reports (State/Federal/Corporate). • Prepares waste reduction and disposal procedures and reports and provides direction for the proper disposal of all solid and hazardous waste. • Attends meetings/seminars necessary to keep abreast of changing safety and environmental regulations, enhance management skills, as required by HR Manager. • Coordinate the implementation and continuation of the JSA-JSO safety function. • Facilitate the implementation and maintenance of environmental management systems in accordance with the international standard ISO 14001, covering all activities and assist other functions within the site in this process. • Interpret relevant legal environmental requirements, including ABB’s List of Prohibited and Restricted Chemical and Substances “GI/SA-01.02A03”, communicate them to the relevant functions and maintain contacts with authorities at local level – liaise with the CSC. • Help reduce environmental impacts by planning and implementation of continual improvement projects, e.g. to reduce the use of energy, to reduce direct and indirect emissions and to generate less waste. • Perform documented regular operational environmental audits of the site’s environmental performance and report result regularly to the site management. • Participate, as relevant, in external audits of the site, e.g. ISO 14001 surveillance audit and customer audits. • Foster continual learning by facilitating the exchange of information and experience within the LSO network in the country/region. • Establish environmental requirement for suppliers and ensure that the requirements are communicated to the supply chain. Perform, as relevant, regular audits of suppliers’ environmental performance. • Co-ordinate the annual reporting of sustainability Operational Performance Indicators (LSO report). • When relevant and as necessary, participate in and co-ordinate due diligence and decontamination of the site. • Review regularly how social standards and guidelines (see GI/SA01.01A02 Social Standards and Guidelines) are implemented at the site. • Other duties as appropriate and assigned by the HR Manager.
