Details: An outpatient Oncology Infusion Nurse will provide state-of-the art nursing care to patients undergoing various types of cancer treatments in the infusion area at the Brown Cancer Center. Treatment Clinicians use Nursing Practice Competencies to achieve safe, optimal patient and family centered health outcomes, application of the scientific knowledge, leadership competencies required to coordinate and provide care for these very complex patients. Treatment Clinicians will perform clinical assessments, infusion, educate patients, families, staff, and function as a liaison between patient, family and physician, as well as coordinate and provide patient care in the adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.; Professional Profile competencies to develop professionally as a life long learner and Practices Outcomes competencies to evaluate care based on evidence, the ULH quality model and patient safety goals. Job duties: 1) Performs nursing assessment and lab evaluation on all treatment patients. Elicits pertinent information concerning treatment and any treatment-related side effects. Makes appropriate recommendations based on oncology knowledge, policies and procedures, physician-directed protocols, individual an family preferences and communication with interdisciplinary team. Obtains orders as required and documents patient assessment, recommendations made and patient teaching in the chart. 2) Reviews patient labs to determine if values are within accepted parameters for treatment. The RN calculates ANC, follows established policies and procedures, advises patients of necessary precautions and reschedules lab/treatment per physician-directed protocols. 3) Possesses and in-depth knowledge of oncology and/or blood and marrow transplantation, chemotherapy and biotherapy treatment regimens, medications and blood products used to care for these complex patients. Knows the uses, standard dose, high dose, functions, side effects and management/administration requirements of chemotherapy and biotherapy regimens. 4) Administers chemotherapy and biological agents proficiently (IV, SQ, IM, IP, IL and PO) according to established policies and procedures, ONS, INS, OSHA and NIOSH guidelines. Recalculates BSA, AUC, and all drug doses accurately. Monitors patients for any adverse reactions. 5) Administers blood and blood products proficiently according to established policies and procedures. Monitors patient for any adverse reactions. 6) Demonstrates proficiency with patient care, including specialty oncology procedures, i.e., hepatic artery pump fills, therapeutic phlebotomy, assist with omaya reservoir procedures, assist with bone marrow biopsy procedures ,Intra Peritoneal, hypersensitivity reactions, anaphylaxis, oncology emergencies, assist with apheresis procedures and neutropenic patients. 7) Demonstrates proficiency in establishing and maintaining venous access peripheral IV, mediports, power ports, dual ports, intraperiteneal ports, Hickman, quad ports, apheresis catheters and other central lines. 8) Collaborates with Clinical Trials, staff and physicians to assure compliance with treatment requirements of current clinical studies. Assures proper procedures are followed and appropriately documented. Reports changes in patient condition / adverse reactions to physician and research nurse. 9) The Clinician oversees the flow of the treatment areas to ensure all patients are seen in a timely fashion, patient issues/concerns are addressed and follow-up treatments are scheduled. The Clinician is also responsible for filling out billing sheets on all treatments rendered. 10) Provides comprehensive education and educational materials for patients and families that is site specific for there treatment. Adjusts teaching style to what is most appropriate for the educational and learning limitations of the patient/family. Documents all education in patient chart. 11) Serves as a resource for patients, educational materials and direction to other community support services and resources; serves as a resource to other staff, outside agencies and students concerning current trends and treatments for the Oncology/BMT patient. 12) Provides additional emotional support for the patient and family throughout the treatment process, with particular attention to the special problems and needs of the extremely ill Oncology/BMT patient. Counsels and cares for patients through the life-span under emotionally charged circumstances requiring a high level of nursing expertise, both clinical and psychological. 13) Performs duties in an autonomous manner based on knowledge, established policies and procedures, standards of care and physician-directed protocols. Works with minimal supervision and exercises initiative and independent judgment in dealing with complex patient care and other issues. 14) Participates in assigned committees, FACT preparation, JCAHO preparation, ACOS certification process, magnet preparation and Quality Improvement initiatives i.e., chart audits, hand washing audits, callbacks to the patients and rescheduling no-shows as assigned by supervisor. Provides competent care based on knowledge of nursing research, evidence-based practice and performance improvement. 15) Participates in own professional growth as demonstrated by the following; maintains professional certification in Oncology, attends and participates in national, regional and local BMT/Med.ONC educational conferences and disseminates this information to peers, strives to learn new skills, cross trains to all areas of the treatment area, participates in health-related community and cancer center projects . 16) Works as a team with other clinicians and nurse practitioners by sharing in clinical responsibilities, patient management, training and education of new nurse clinicians, ancillary personnel and physician staff. 17) Successfully completes annual RN skills and Oncology RN skills validations. What you will be doing: Create campaign strategies that cascade from the overall Segment Strategic Plan. Identify market problems that product should solve and the product distinctive competences. Ensure that effective product information/tools, with key messaging for sales are created, updated, and posted to Product Information pages. Assist in the key account selling strategy development and take an active role in presenting products to customers. Represent the company on panels and presentations at major association meeting and trade shows. Outline and help produce white papers, case studies and thought leadership pieces. Manage formal higher-level (industry/market-wide) advisory boards/user groups. This will include recruits members, establishes charter, plans meetings, shares results, funnels intelligence up to Segment level, as appropriate. Our fast paced team relies on Lean Development Principles to support a variety of line-of-business applications and data analysis/manipulation processes, primarily around the internal Customer Relationship Management.
