Jr Technical Support (will hire ASAP 15/hr

Details: Technical Support Specialists are needed to support a 7days per week Technical Support Center. Support Center operations is: M-F:0600-1900; Sat: 0600-1400; Sun and Holidays: 0500-1200 (all EST). This centercurrently supports two nationally deployed package/mail scanning systems. Thesesystems are portable/mobile scanning and processing systems based on either 1)a small footprint overhead scanner mounted on a mobile cart with associated CPUand peripherals or 2) a ring or handheld scanner with associated laptop andperipherals. Both systems are network connected to agency host computers. TheTechnical Support Specialists provide phone and/or email technical support tousers to gather data about issues, analyze the issue(s), resolve problem orescalate to the next level of support. Specialists need to have good oral andwritten skills and be able to use help desk software to create a ticket,document the call (or email), close out or escalate the ticket and follow theticket throughout its lifecycle. While on the call, specialists need to be ableto follow a series of helpdesk scripts/steps to identify and resolve the hardware,software or network issues, identify system problems affecting multiple users,work with network or other support desks, order replacement equipment ifneeded, properly transfer and escalate issues, and close out tickets or performother follow-up tasks. Specialists will recommend content and processes toimprove the knowledge-tree database, frequently asked questions (FAQs),training material, service now templates, helpdesk scripts and othercommunications documents, based on their daily work activities. When callvolumes are low or based on business needs, Specialists may be ask to conductanalytical work to identify patterns of issues, look for root causes andpresent recommendations for resolving the issues, thereby reducing calls to thesupport desk. Specialist may also be asked to create reports related to thesupport desk performance and/or perform tasks to improve the support deskprogram. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE Minimum 1 year experienced technical support desk withproven ability to: • Use support desk incident tracking systems • Create and manage incident (issue) tickets, provide caller with ticket numberand estimated resolution time. • Verify that software/equipment is properly configured and networkconnectivity is operational and correct connected to the network • Follow helpdesk scripts to analyze and resolve system hardware and softwareissues, troubleshoot network and communication problems, and transfer orescalate issues • If needed, escalate issues following proper transfer processes to next Tiersupport • Conduct follow-up to ensure issue is resolved and ticket is closed Experience providing phone technical support such thatproblems can be resolved by the help desk specialist taking the call orproperly transferred. Experience working cooperatively with technical supportgroups when troubleshooting network issues via bridge calls, email, and instantmessenger and other communication tools. Shall have knowledge, skills, and abilities in some orall of the below: • Computer operations background • Computer networking knowledge • Verify network timings • Verify proper sequential operation • Verify data transmission & data return formats Demonstrated ability to learn new technology and becomeknowledgeable and familiar with the equipment, features, processes, andfunctions from existing documentation, first hand Inspection, and hands-on training. All important aspects of the work are subject to detailed and specific procedures which the employee follows closely. Performs complex structural and high pressure pipe welding in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on various types of industrial building, support or automotive equipment including construction or modification of existing facility and equipment in accordance with WMATA Track Standards, schematics, layout diagrams and standard welding guidelines. Sets up and works from scaffolding, ladders and other high reach or specialized equipment as required in assigned work. Completes required documentation and reports for the repair fabrication or modification work performed by using the proper forms. Attends on-the-job and formal training classes; assists individuals in higher classifications in their assignments or provides job specific training to lower classifications. Responds to and provides assistance in emergencies which require repairs to track, structures, or equipment involved in incidents, accidents, or derailments as well as snow removal emergencies.
