Married couple found dead in Green Bay home

Authorities are investigating the deaths of a husband and wife who were found Thursday on the bedroom floor of their home on Green Bay’s far west side. Green Bay police said the man’s employer went to the house at 3125 West Point Road to check on him and could see him lying on the floor in the house. Full Story: Post Crescent

Paper Valley sold for $17.8 million

APPLETON — The Radisson Paper Valley Hotel has been sold for $17.8 million to the lender that financed the downtown business. The hotel, most recently owned by Watermark Hotel Investors, went into a court-ordered receivership in June after defaulting on a $27 million balloon payment. Full Story: Post Crescent

Menasha man killed in crash on ramp

New London youth wins Punt, Pass & Kick national title

Jack Noffke of New London won the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick national championship in Atlanta on Saturday. Noffke, representing the Green Bay Packers, was the champion of the 12-13 boys’ division, finishing with a total of 385 feet, 9 inches to easily outdistance Garrett Elder, who was representing the Indianapolis Colts and was second with 293 feet, 8 inches. New Appleton pay scales still undetermined

Appleton’s council continues to wrestle with the results of its $60,000 compensation study to adjust employee pay scales and will take another two weeks to sort out the data. Police search ends for Little Chute man who prompted street closure, school lockdown

LITTLE CHUTE — A man who sparked a police search and school lockdown Thursday after making suicidal comments on a social media site has returned home, according to Fox Valley Metro police. Police initially believed the man was armed when they were called to his home on the 400 block of Wilson Street around 3:15 p.m. Thursday. Appleton police investigate attempted robbery at Citgo

APPLETON — A person who attempted to rob a Citgo convenience store in the 100 block of Wisconsin Avenue Friday morning changed his mind after telling a clerk of his plans, police say. The would-be robber, who was wearing “some type of material over his face,” walked up to the store counter and told a female employee he wanted to rob the place, said Sgt. Father accused of hitting, caging toddler

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- A Fox Valley father is accused of hitting his two-year-old son, tying him up and placing him in a dog cage. Thirty-four-year-old Michael Kitzman, of Little Chute, faces felony charges of child abuse. Officer Scott Vanschyndel (van-SHIN'-del) says Kitzman admitted losing his temper and striking the toddler. Appleton pastor, community leader dies

APPLETON — Dr. G. Manns, a pastor and community leader within the Appleton area, died Tuesday from ongoing health issues, according to family members. Manns, 59, was the founder and senior pastor of Appleton Sanctuary Outreach Ministries. In the late 90s, Manns also founded B.A.B.E.S. Oshkosh woman injured in crash on Highway 41

An Oshkosh woman was injured in a roll over crash on U.S. Highway 41 in Neenah Wednesday night. The 23-year-old woman was driving a pickup truck south on Highway 41 near Winneconne Ave., when she lost control of her vehicle at 8:45 p.m. Her vehicle rolled and struck the median barrier wall and a portable electronic signboard that signals the start of the highway construction zone. Police: OnStar service may have saved suicidal man's life

HORTONVILLE — An in-vehicle monitoring system may have saved the life of a suicidal man who refused to drop his handgun in a confrontation with police last week, authorities say. A technician with OnStar service was able to remotely shut down the engine of Floyd M. Gardner IV’s pickup truck as he tried to flee from police along County M. Man wanted for Oshkosh Walgreens robbery turns himself in

A man wanted in connection with an armed robery at the Walgreens on South Koeller Street has turned himself in to the Oshkosh Police Department. Crash shuts down Highway 45 near Dale

U.S. 45 northwest of Dale is shutdown as emergency crews respond to a crash near Shaky Lake Road. The crash involved a semi truck and a Jeep Cherokee, which ended up in the east side ditch. A ThedaStar helicopter was dispatched to the scene, according to the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department. The State Patrol confirmed one person was transported to a hospital by air. De Pere woman gets prison for payroll tax violations

A De Pere business owner will spend 366 days in prison and make restitution of $274,000 for federal tax violations. Lisa Bartz Vanden Elzen, 47, co-owner of Dairy Transport Services LLC of De Pere, was found guilty in U.S. District Court in Green Bay of failing to pay payroll taxes that had been withheld from employee wages. Firefighters respond to garage fire in Grand Chute

GRAND CHUTE — A house fire at 2918 W. Parkridge Ave. destroyed a garage, car and attic Monday afternoon. Firefighters arrived shortly after 1:30 p.m. to find heavy smoke and flames in the attached garage. 8 fishermen rescued from floating ice near Bay Shore Park in Brown County

NEW FRANKEN — Eight fishermen were rescued this morning after being stranded on drifting ice just off Bay Shore Park beach in northeastern Brown County. One of the fishermen used a cell phone at 9:23 a.m. to report he was on a broken ice chunk in the bay of Green Bay, Brown County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Perry said. The U.S. Coast Guard and New Franken firefighters also responded and set up operations at Red River Park in Kewaunee County, which is about four miles northeast of Bay Shore Park. 21-year-old commits suicide in Appleton park

APPLETON — Police say a man found dead in Peabody Park on Sunday committed suicide. Officers were called to the north end of the park along the trail about 1:30 p.m. after a parkgoer found the 21-year-old’s body. Police said the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Full Story: Post Crescent

Neenah library nears milestone

Residents checked out 962,756 books, magazines, DVDs, CDs and other materials from the Neenah Public Library during 2012. The number is a circulation record, topping the 2011 total of 929,634 by nearly 4 percent. Neenah library director Stephen Proces thinks Neenah will surpass the one million mark in 2013, but he won’t be at the helm to witness it. He will retire April 1. Full Story: Post Crescent
