Neenah suspends liquor license for six days

Woman gets 6 years in crash

Chemical fumes prompt Turtle Lake plant evacuation

TURTLE LAKE — Nine workers were sent to a hospital after chemical fumes prompted an evacuation of a western Wisconsin plant. Jury finds Oshkosh man guilty in heroin death

After two days of testimony, a Winnebago County jury needed one hour to determine an Oshkosh man was guilty of providing heroin to a Winneconne man who died of an overdose. A jury found Jason S. Van Dyke, 32, guilty of first-degree reckless homicide Tuesday. Van Dyke was charged in connection to the overdose death last year of 25-year-old Cole Trittin. Full Story: Post Crescent

Man guilty in death of bicyclist

MANITOWOC — Following a seven-day jury trial, Dean J. Koenig of Valders was found guilty Wednesday of felony homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle in the death of Kiel bicyclist Wayne Scharenbroch on April 3, 2010. Koenig’s bail was revoked and he was taken to jail. His sentencing is scheduled for 2 p.m. March 15 in Manitowoc County Circuit Court. Judge Gary Bendix ordered a presentencing investigation. Gas leak causes evacuation in Appleton

Pit bull bite sends woman to hospital

An Oshkosh woman needed stitches after a dog bit her in the head Monday afternoon. The 18-year-old woman had been in a verbal argument with another person at her residence in the 1500 block of Hazel Street, but had gone upstairs about 2:35 p.m. A 3-year-old pit bull then ran upstairs and attacked the woman. The Buzz: Two healthy businesses

Two small businesses set up earlier this month to help the ailing in private surroundings. • High Hopes Salon is tucked inside Appleton Medical Center’s Martha Siekman Cancer Center in Appleton. The small private salon moved from the main hospital to a location inside the cancer center aided by a donation from the Patricia Ann High Cancer Fund. City Notes: Appleton panel reaffirms ending SWAT sharing

Despite objections from Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna and Grand Chute Town Chairman Dave Schowalter, a safety panel Thursday reaffirmed an earlier vote to end an agreement to share SWAT team resources. Rockets take flight: Neenah no longer flying under radar

Charge against panhandler dropped in Outagamie court; vagrancy law being challenged

APPLETON — Beggars might be annoying to most people, but their pleas for handouts aren’t crimes, an Outagamie County judge ruled. Judge Dee Dyer recently tossed a misdemeanor vagrancy charge filed last month against Bradley S. Construction fire reported at Lambeau Field

Firefighters were called to Lambeau Field this afternoon for a reported construction fire found a fire burning inside a wall, officials said. Lt. 'Light Up the Fox' project aims to highlight Appleton history

APPLETON — A nonprofit organization plans to harness the same magical power that paper manufacturer H.J. Rogers captured with his hydroelectric plant in 1882 when it erects lighted sculptures along the Fox River. “Light Up the Fox” is working to make the sparkling illuminated displays a reality at Atlas Mill, Vulcan Park and the Paper Discovery Center next year. Oconomowoc woman gets 8 years for fatal overdose

A 20-year-old Oconomowoc woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a heroin overdose that killed a Hartland man. Dustin L. Williams’ mother found him unresponsive at their home in July 2011, shortly after a visit by Kandice Essmann, his friend since high school. He was pronounced dead at an Oconomowoc hospital. Green Bay woman jailed for substantial battery in Appleton

APPLETON — A Green Bay woman struck a man with a champagne bottle after he offended her friend about her weight during a disturbance in the 300 block of W. College Avenue early Sunday morning. Appleton Police Sgt. Jay Steinke said the 26-year-old woman “took it too far” about 3:20 a.m. Sunday when she threw the bottle at the man from close range, causing a cut near his mouth that required stitches. Emergency Concealed Carry Rules Set to Expire

MADISON - The state Justice Department is preparing to enact a second round of emergency rules enabling them to issue concealed carry permits. The emergency rules were put in place last year for issuing and revoking permits. The regulations are set to expire December 15th. The DOJ has already drafted permanent regulations. But the package needs Assembly and Senate approval though, and neither house has acted on it. Full Story: WJFW

Winnebago County weighs ice arena options

Winnebago County recently drafted a $1 check to purchase Outagamie County’s half ownership of the Tri-County Ice Arena and now hopes to sell naming rights to the facility for a much bigger check. Oshkosh fire victim identified

OSHKOSH — Authorities have identified the victim in a fatal fire at a duplex early Saturday morning as a 56-year-old Oshkosh woman. Preliminary autopsy results showed that Randi I. Houdini Plaza construction will begin in January
