School board to try again to sell house students built, works on budget, new roofs

The Antigo school board will try again to sell its student-built house, now located on the grounds of the high school.

Director of Business Services Mary Jo Filbrandt told the board of education Tuesday that the house, constructed by high school students over the course of the school year, failed to collect any bids following its first open house at the close of the school year.

After books vanish, free library organizer discovers true kindness

Mary Masterton’s worst day in a long time turned into maybe her best weekend ever.

Hours after vandals stole the books out of the Little Free Library located outside her home at Fifth Avenue and Hudson Street, donations of new titles were overflowing the tidy little box, causing Masterton to joke that “I need a branch now.”

Farm breakfast draws a crowd

Thousands and thousands of pancakes, eggs and containers of milk were served to a huge crowd that turned out Sunday for the Breakfast on the Farm program at Nagel dairy operation at highways B an V.

The crowd not only dined on scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausages, cheesy hashbrowns and an assortment of dairy products, they listened to music and lined up for wagons tours of the farm.

Dairy breakfast at Nagel's farm Sunday showcases local industry

The Nagel family is issuing an invitation for everyone to visit its farm north of Antigo, perhaps brush shoulders with a few cows and enjoy the 2014 June Dairy Breakfast on Sunday.

The farm is located at the intersection of Highways B and V about seven miles north of Antigo where the Nueske family, from Gulliver’s of Wausau, will be cooking up scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes, cheesy hashbrowns, hot donuts and serving ice cream, cheese, pure maple syrup to go with it...

Auction Saturday at historic machine shop

A very interesting auction is set for Saturday in Antigo at one of the community’s historic buildings.

Gene and Judy Jacobus are clearing out their building at Sixth Avenue and Field Street, a stunning structure dating to the middle 1920s. It had been used for industrial purposes by the Wirig family, ssrved as a site to park its trucks before it was sold for use by Gene and Judy Jacobus.

City celebrates with tree project on Wednesday, all invited to join

Celebrate Arbor Day while helping to create a new park in the city’s central core on Wednesday.

Antigo Park and Recreation Director Sarah Repp is seeking volunteers to help plant 41 trees in the Railway Activity Park, an area slowly being carved from the former Chicago & Northwestern Railroad corridor between First and Third Avenues, just west of Edison Street.

Housing Authority honored for its service to residents

As it prepares for a major renovation of its flagship Park View Manor, the Antigo Housing Authority has been honored for its commitment to providing quality affordable housing to area residents.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Agency cited the local organization for its work securing funding for the rehabilitation of two housing complexes—Lincoln Street Apartments and First Avenue Apartments.

Renters of 'trashed' home may be prosecuted

An extreme case of renter neglect has grabbed the attention of the Antigo Police Department.

Chief Eric Roller said today that he will be conferring with the Langlade County District Attorney’s Office to discuss whether charges will be filed against a former Antigo family who left their rented home in utter shambles. It’s so bad, authorities said, that the Health Department has been contacted to determine if the residence is simply in need of a major cleaning or if something more drastic will need to occur.

Man gets prison term for bathroom exposure

An Antigo man who exposed himself to an eight-year-old girl in the bathroom of a local ball park was sentenced in Langlade County Circuit Court Wednesday to an extended term in prison.

Jacob Ball, 26, was ordered by Judge Fred Kawalski to a six and a half-year stay in the Wisconsin prison system for the act which occurred at Saratoga Park in June of 2013.
