Such tasks include (but may not be limited to) auger drilling, mud rotary, diamond coring and air rotary drilling techniques. • Loads appropriate drilling sampling and well installation tools and supplies onto trucks or drill rigs, using job register or job information sheets as guides for specific project requirements. • Completes drilling tasks using appropriate methods for all borings, piezometers, or observation wells of specific diameter and depth utilizing various drilling techniques for holes to depths of approximately 150 feet. • Prepares and reviews field boring logs using Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) and basic standard rock classifications and site description forms for projects as well as other necessary site documentation such as a listing of observation well supplies installed for each day. • Performs drilling tasks on environmental projects utilizing assigned safety level gear for OSHA Level D, D modified, C and/or B projects. Responsible for the safety of the drill crew and for ensuring that the assigned safety gear is being utilized during the execution of the project. • Performs maintenance tasks as necessary. May work independently and generally supervises other department staff on shop tasks, particularly in absence of department or office manager. Primary Purpose Independently resolves large and significantly complex non-litigated damage, coverage, and liability claims for a multi-state territory in accordance with departmental and company guidelines; oversees a large pending of litigated claims by directing the activity of defense attorneys per department guidelines. Utilizes alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and determines creative approaches of ADR to resolve litigated files. Provides departmental support by mentoring and training new and current claims representatives. Coordinates new loss set up in manager’s absence. Maintains expertise in a specified line(s) of business and litigation through training courses and participating in continuing education coursework/classes. Attends in person mediations, agency visits, key discovery depositions and field investigations throughout our service area. Supports after-hours claims emergencies by being on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Keeps focus with continued file handling by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information, as well as making recommendations to managers regarding reserve changes and future handling of files over his/her authority level. Ensures company guidelines and procedures are followed by overseeing independent vendors during investigations, discovery and settlement. Ensures proper file documentation of assigned files by complying with company and state requirements. Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing claim information.
