Sexual assault victim advocate responds to Tuesday's state Supreme Court ruling

RHINELANDER - The state Supreme Court made a ruling Tuesday that could impact what evidence can be used in rape cases.

It reversed the decision of a state appeals court in a 2011 case.

A defendant argued evidence of a previous consensual relationship with the victim should be allowed in court.

Trek Bicycles defends ad - GOP files complaint

MADISON -
A spokeswoman for Trek Bicycles says its full page newspaper advertisement complies with Wisconsin law and is constitutionally protected free speech.

The Wisconsin Republican Party on Tuesday filed a complaint with the state elections board saying the ad that ran Sunday in Madison and Milwaukee newspapers was an illegal campaign contribution to Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke.

Shoppers enjoy strawberry social and bazaar

BOULDER JUNCTION - Early Tuesday, Northwoods shoppers enjoyed an old fashioned Strawberry social and bazaar in Boulder Junction.

It was the 28th year the Community Church of Boulder Junction hosted the event. The bazaar featured many handmade items such as quilts, note cards and purses. There was also a White Elephant sale, tables full of baked goods and collectable cookbooks to purchase.

ACLU objects to full court hearing gay marriage

MADISON - Gay couples challenging Wisconsin's ban on same-sex marriages are objecting to the state's request that the full 7th Circuit Court of Appeals hear arguments in the case.

American Civil Liberties Union attorneys representing eight same-sex couples challenging the ban filed an objection Monday to the state's request that the entire appeals court hear the arguments.

Man who spends summers in Northwoods invents first-of-its-kind CPR device

EAGLE RIVER - One in four Americans will need to perform CPR on someone. But 70% of those people feel helpless because they don't know what to do, according to the American Heart Association. Joe Hanson, a man who spends his summers in Eagle River, spent more than 45 years in the cardiovascular medical device industry. Over time he saw devices improve. But one thing that didn't was the survival rate of people who suffer from sudden cardiac arrest.

Michigan's application period starts for antlerless deer hunt...less availability in the U.P.

LANSING, MI - Michigan's application period for licenses to hunt antlerless deer is underway and continues through Aug. 15.

The Department of Natural Resources says hunters can seek one license in any open deer management unit statewide. A non-refundable fee of $5 is charged.

UPDATE: Police think alcohol, reckless driving may have played a role in a motorcycle crash on Highway 8

TOWN OF WOODBORO - UPDATE 7/20/14 12:05 p.m.

We don't know the condition of the motorcycle driver who crashed on Highway 8 on Saturday.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office did release his name. 33-year-old Jed M. Travis of Weston crashed his motorcycle near Birch Bay Road in the town of Woodboro around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
