TOWN OF WOODBORO - Police believe reckless driving and alcohol may have played a role in a motorcycle crash on Highway 8.

The single motorcycle accident happened around 5:30 p.m. near Birch Bay Road in the town of Woodboro. The driver of the motorcycle was flown by Spirit Air to St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Helping young artists sell their artwork, teaching them how to be successful vendors

EAGLE RIVER - You don't always find friendship bracelets and beaded key chains at an art festival. But at Artarama, kids got the chance to sell their artwork.

"We promote the kids to bring the stuff they make and sell it, learn how to be a vendor at an art show," said Artarama committee member Barbara Zyhowski.

Freedom from religion group, IRS settle lawsuit

MADISON - A Wisconsin-based group representing atheists and agnostics has agreed to drop a federal lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service over tax-exempt churches and religious organizations that get involved in political campaigns.

The Freedom from Religion Foundation and the IRS submitted a motion in federal court on Thursday asking the judge to dismiss the case filed in 2012.

Republican Senate Majority Leader says replacing standards difficult

MADISON - The Republican leader of the state Senate says replacing Common Core education standards as Gov. Scott Walker wants will be ``difficult.''

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said in a statement Friday that while there may be support for repealing current standards, ``developing new standards that satisfy everyone's concerns will be much more difficult.''

School of the arts begins

RHINELANDER - Get ready for another great Northwoods tradition this weekend, the 51st annual School of the Arts will begin at 8:30 am tomorrow (July 19th) in the James Williams Middle School in Rhinelander. The event is put on by leaders from UW-Madison and typically attracts more than 150 artists from around the state.

The classes are offered over a five-day period (from July 19th-23rd) are geared for adults 18 and older.

"We've become successful": small northern Wisconsin tribe makes big business waves in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE - Jeff Crawford stands in a hard hat on the 16th floor of a colossal new Potawatomi development in Milwaukee.

He's the Attorney General of the Forest County Potawatomi tribe.

"The tribe was arguably one of the poorest tribes in the entire country prior to 1991," Crawford says.

Bodies-in-suitcases suspect had many bondage dates

ELKHORN - The lawyer for a former police officer accused of hiding the bodies of two women who died during rough sex in suitcases left along a rural road says his client had encounters involving bondage with many other women as well.

Walworth County Public Defender Travis Schwantes says 52-year-old Steven Zelich had many relationships online and in person with many women.

Study: Majority of Wisconsinites support some minimum wage increase, debate over possible impact

RHINELANDER - A UW-Milwaukee Urban Initiatives & Research study shows the majority of Wisconsinites, from both parties, support an increase to the state's minimum wage.

Wisconsin's $7.25 minimum wage hasn't been changed since federal law increased it to the current level in 2009.

Small Price County community celebrates the 100th birthday of an iconic school building

LUGERVILLE - A small community in Price County celebrates the 100th birthday of an iconic building this week.

"In 1904, Frank, John, and Lewis Luger and their father came out here to log and make a logging mill. And then they decided that with more and more people coming here that they needed to build homes," says Therese Trojak, member of the Save the Lugerville School Committee.
