County Deer Advisory Councils Holds First Meeting in Oneida County

ONEIDA COUNTY - The DNR will use a different approach to collect hunting data over the next three years. The department created a council for each county to review and consider measuring and handling the deer herd. Tuesday, Oneida County took their first step with the new council.

County Deer Advisory Councils are a new wrinkle to deer management in Wisconsin. Members are eager to see what the future will hold even though this was their first meeting Tuesday.

Park Falls to move forward with industrial park dialogue; Butternut & Fifield yet to take action

PRICE AND ASHLAND COUNTIES - Park Falls, Butternut and Fifield could all add industrial space to parts of their area. Park Falls Area Community Development Corporation Administrator Frank Kempf says he noticed the area needed more industrial space when he took over his position in 2006.

Judge halts proceedings in child stabbing case

WAUKESHA - A judge has halted court proceedings for one of two 12-year-old girls accused of trying to kill a classmate to please a fictional character called Slender Man.

The girl's attorney, Maura McMahon, told Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren on Monday that she has questions about the girl's ability to assist in her own defense. Bohren ordered a competency examination to be completed within 30 days.

Woman sentenced for involvement in Forest County beating

FOREST COUNTY - Prosecutors believe four people attacked a man and left him to die in Forest County woods in March. One of those people learned her sentence Monday.

April Jones reached a plea deal with prosecutors. She pled guilty to a misdemeanor for battery. The judge sentenced her to one year in jail. She will get credit for the more than five months she's already served.

Insurance expert: Faster you act, sooner you'll have coverage if you lost BadgerCare

MADISON - People who lost BadgerCare coverage after changes this year will get another chance to find health insurance on the federal online exchange this fall.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will give those people until November 2nd to enroll.

Security Health Plan Director of Marketing Marty Anderson says the company has insured around 31,000 people in Wisconsin from their plans offered on the federal exchange.
