Northwoods man raising money to help accident victim go to school, live a normal life

RHINELANDER - An accident can change someone's life in a matter of seconds. A Northwoods teen had to put his job, school, and friends on hold after he was hit head on by a car.

Joey Balocca didn't know his life would change when he got on his motorcycle to drive home last summer.

3 hurt in 2 motorcycle crash

LINCOLN COUNTY - A two motorcycle crash put three people in the hospital. The crash happened on County Highway A in Lincoln County just after 9:20 Sunday morning.

Lincoln County deputies think a 54-year-old man driving the first motorcycle was slowing down because there was a porcupine on the side of the road. His 54-year-old wife was on the motorcycle with him. The second motorcycle driven by a 51-year-old woman was behind the couple.

Preventing Lyme Disease in the Northwoods

MINOCQUA - Lyme Disease can be dangerous if you don't treat it. The faster you know you have it, the better chance you have at getting rid of it. The only way to do that is to know what symptoms to look out for.

That's why Jillayne and Jeff Waite of Arbor Vitae talked to a group of people at the Church of the Pines in Minocqua Sunday. Their daughter was diagnosed with Lyme Disease 11 years ago. They then were bitten by a infected tick a couple years after she was diagnosed, but they were able to catch it in time.

Local businesses profit from Tomahawk Fall Ride

TOMAHAWK - Most motorcyclists left Tomahawk after an eventful weekend, but some still stuck around Sunday to shop. That really boost business for stores downtown.

You could find bikers shopping up and down Wisconsin Street all Sunday. Tomahawk Surplus Store has been in business for 58 years. The co-owner, Jim Wise, has seen the 33rd Tomahawk Fall Ride start from the beginning. He also knows which stores profit from the event and which don't.

Hundreds walk to prevent more suicides, get rid of stigmas associated with mental illness

WAUSAU - A suicide prevention group in Marathon County wants to get rid of the stigma that's often associated with mental illness. The group thinks that could bring down the number of suicides that happen in north central Wisconsin.

Prevent Suicide-Marathon County is a group with a very simple goal. Its members want to teach the community about mental illness and stop suicides. One way they do that is through their "Out of the Darkness" walk.

Walker approves new voter ID process

MADISON - Gov. Scott Walker has approved new rules establishing a free process for verifying birth information for people looking for state identification cards to vote but lack birth certificates.

Walker approved the rules Friday, the same day state attorneys tried to convince the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago to reinstate a state law requiring voters show photo identification at the polls.

Solar flare could give Northern US, Wisc. the chance to see northern lights

ACROSS THE NORTHWOODS - You might get to see Aurora Borealis, or the northern lights, across the Northwoods Friday night.

The lights could get triggered by a pair of solar flares. The first flare arrived Thursday night, but the second one should impact the possible lights through Saturday evening.

PHELPS - You may see some new faces around Phelps this weekend- with straw sticking out of them.
The town is busy preparing for their fifth annual Scarecrow Fest.

The event is held on the lakeshore and celebrates the turn of the seasons.
There will be activities throughout the day including live entertainment, a craft fair, hay rides and, of course, a scarecrow contest.
