Primary duties include booking and tracking all premium expedited shipments in a timely and professional manner, as well as coordinating all moves associated with the shipment per the Customer's requirements, while maintaining quality customer service. They will speak with current customers when they have needs for shipping items. The role of the logistics coordinator is to work with that customer to figure out the fastest and cheapest way for the items to be shipped that the customer is needing shipped. For example if they tell the coordinator they need XYZ shipped, the coordinator will determine for ex. we are going to need 5 pallets, one truck....etc. After they determine how the item(s) are going to be shipped they will send out the project for bidding to other carriers. Our client does not always take on the projects their customers come to them with. Sometimes they will send them out to other third party carriers if they are willing to do it for cheaper. After the project goes on the "bid board" and the project has a lowest bid, our client will get a final chance to match the bid of the carrier that had the lowest price. It will be up to the business coordinator to select if they should match the bid and take on the business or not. During this process problem solving, critical thinking, and outside the box thinking are all involved. This person must have the business oriented mind to be able to solve problems, and come up with solutions as they arise. The employee will be trained in all of the logistics knowledge and strategies. But the ability to think outside the box, and aggressive attitude is a must have. Someone that came from sales or negotiations would be a good fit for this position. Preferably from a call center or high volume contact center. All of the orders and customers they are working with are over the phone. So clear communication is very important. A person that did customer sales / retention over the phone would be an ideal candidate. The candidates must also have a good sense of paying close attention to detail. In logistics small things matter, and little details are very important.
