Genetic Associate

Details: Job Rank: PAHE Department: Medical and Molecular Genetics 14087 - Genetic Associate The Genetic Associate will ensure that all newborns referred by the NS Lab for abnormal Cystic Fibrosis testing receive follow-up services including timely notification to Primary care physicians (PCPs) and /or families, confirmatory sweat chloride test or genetic counseling as clinically appropriate) and follow-up as needed at an accredited CF clinic. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Ensure that all newborns referred by the NS Lab receive appropriate diagnosis and follow-up services, including the following: a) Provide timely notification to primary care physicians (PCPs) of children with at least one mutation for cystic fibrosis (CF) or their families when the PCP of the child cannot be identified or reached. b) Provide timely follow-up services for children referred by the NS Lab with at least one mutation for CF by ensuring that they receive a confirmatory sweat chloride test or genetic counseling (as clinically appropriate) at an accredited CF clinic. c) Ensure that children with two CF mutations are seen at an accredited CF clinic. •Offer educational services to families of children originally referred by the NS Lab with at least one mutation for CF, including: Offer printed materials to families of children with at least one mutation for CF or to their PCPs when the family cannot be directly reached. •Ensure that educational materials are kept up to date, including the list of accredited CF clinics in Indiana. Help prepare any new educational materials/DVD/web site materials regarding CF at IU Health facilities. •Communicate with the various CF clinics to obtain results for these children, and enter all results into the Indiana Newborn Screening Tracking and Education Program (INSTEP) online application. •Participate in monitoring activities for each clinic which may include telephone calls for visits with local personnel. Participate in all Newborn Screen follow-up data collection and grant preparation activities.
