Assures that solutions in pHoenix meter Tri-Station are fresh and labeled with contents as well as dates opened or prepared and initials of staff member who opened or prepared solutions (i.e., reverse osmosis water, 1% bleach solution, pH standard solution and conductivity standard solution). Helps charge nurse and nurse manager to oversee and remind staff to use personal protective equipment according to policies and regulations. Reviews and oversees, along with charge nurse and nurse manager, that bottles of alcohol, Betadine, peroxide, test strips and jugs of acid concentrate are labeled with the date opened and initials of staff member who opened containers. Helps to oversee that treatment area has all needed supplies and that items are stored according to policy (e.g., no supplies in station area when patients are dialyzing and none under sinks). Notifies Chief Technician / Equipment Technician if supplies are getting low. Assists staff with basic troubleshooting; replaces a machine with a back-up one, if needed. Reports any risk management (RM) issues to the Chief Technician / Equipment Technician. Prepares and monitors the hemodialyzer and the hemodialysis machine and performs and documents the required quality control checks (e.g., residual chlorine test with chlorine strips, pH, conductivity and temperature). Participates in pre, intra and post-dialysis physical assessments of patients' conditions. Initiates, monitors and terminates hemodialysis treatments in accordance with the clinic's approved policies and procedures. Obtains ordered pre, intra and post-dialysis laboratory specimens. Reviews and documents patient education, as necessary, to ensure compliance with the ESRD Network, regulatory agencies, DCI's Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Program and clinic requirements. Assists in the review of annual consent forms and clinic patient policies and procedures, obtaining signatures, as required. Completes routine quality control checks on emergency equipment, as assigned. Recognizes and responds to emergency situations. Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
