Details: I. POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Nursing Services, this position has responsibility for the management of patient care provided by department personnel in assigned area. Promotes the development of professional and nonprofessional nursing associates using counseling, teaching, and role modeling techniques. L. Promotes and supports staff attendance at inservice offerings. M. Assists staff nurses in developing and enhancing nursing, priority setting, and problem solving skills. N. Serves as a patient/family advocate, assuring that the rights of patients/families are respected. O. Identifies and takes action in response to patient/family or physician concerns. Follows up with patient representative. P. Details: II. POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for coordinating and performing diagnostic medical imaging procedures to aid physicians in the diagnosis of disease. III. KEY JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Perform a variety of diagnostic procedures some of a more complex nature, utilizing state of the art computerized diagnostic imaging equipment. B. Evaluates patient for clinical indications, possible sedation, possible history of IV contrast allergies, on or off site bowel preparation and if needed coordinate for life support via the Respiratory Care Department and nursing on the unit. C. Assists the radiologist in performing invasive biopsy procedures using the CT scan systems in pin pointing exact anatomical cross-sectional location(s) of a specified diseased area for specimen evaluation. D. Upon completion of a procedure, the technologist programs the computer to assure that all that all scan data is correctly archived or stored on an optical disk for future reference. E. Coordinates and prioritizes procedures during the workday to maintain a high level of patient care and continuity. F. Ensures that the CT Scan room is adequately supplied, checks equipment and computer status for readiness, reports any problems that could change the work flow and makes sure corrective actions are taken to ensure continuity. G. Assures that all charges are correctly entered on the request form; making sure that all credits or charges are documented and coded correctly. H. Demonstrates competence to do assigned client care responsibilities in a way that meets the age-specific and developmental needs of persons served by the department. I. Details: Patient Access Rep 1 staff facilitates easy access to scheduling radiology exams for referring physicians and are responsible for establishing an encounter for any patient who meets the guidelines for service. Patient Access Rep 1 staff complete data entry that is accurate including demographic and financial information for each account. Patient Access Rep 1 staff have numerous procedural requirements which may include data elements, insurance verification, authorization for services, obtaining accurate physician orders, instructing patients regarding amount owed and how to access payment arrangements. Patient Access Rep 1 staff communicates directly with patients and families, physicians, nurses, insurance companies and third party payers. This position requires professional appearance, behavior, and excellent communication skills. Patient Access Rep 1 staff require dependability, flexibility, and teamwork. 1. REGISTRATION • Obtains and accurately inputs all required data elements for registration, including patient demographic, financial information, guarantor information, and relevant notes associated with the encounter. - Data fields include but are not limited to: address, employment, insurance info, nearest relative, guarantor, insurance plan, admitting diagnosis, working diagnosis, and physician information. • Prioritizes registration in a consistent, courteous, professional, accurate and timely manner. • Ensures each patient is assigned only one medical record number. • Selects appropriate patient type based on the department and services required. • Communicates the purpose of and obtains patient/legal guardian signatures on all necessary hospital documents. Knowledgeable of all such documents. - Hospital consent forms - Assignment of benefits - Payroll Deduction Form - Acknowledgement of Account - Financial Assistance Application - Living Will (& inquires if Living Will exists) - Advance Directive. (Obtains information from all patients over 18 years of age, and provides written information to patient when requested.) - Patient Rights • Documents in account notes. • Ensures orders are received and are consistent with tests/procedures. • Prepares account/patient folder with necessary forms completed and signed. • Gives patient documents that he/she needs to take with him/her to other departments. 2. INSURANCE VERIFICATION / EXPLANATION OF BENEFITS • Verifies eligibility and obtains necessary authorizations for services rendered. - Medicare / Medicaid eligibility information through the patient admission process. - Answer Medicare Secondary Payor Questionnaire. - Utilizes online eligibility or Medifax when necessary for verification of Medicare / Medicaid - Obtains online verification of major payors, including Blue Cross (I-Link Blue), State Employees Group Benefit, Tricare, United Healthcare, and others. • Utilizes appropriate spreadsheets and worksheets to calculate patient financial responsibility. • Performs financial assessment for appropriate program assistance. • Utilizes appropriate guidelines to assist patient with financial responsibility. • Demonstrates accuracy in selecting insurance plans (I-plans). 3. COLLECTIONS • Calculates and collects the estimated patient portion based on benefits and contract reimbursement as well as prior balances. - Utilizes appropriate language and behavior to collect patient financial responsibility. - Collect co-payments, deductibles, deposits and /or amounts due on previous accounts. - Knowledge and ability to review notes on all pre-admitted accounts and discuss with customer in a courteous professional manner - Knowledge of insurance plans - Knowledge and ability to review and explain previous accounts - Knowledge and ability to complete payroll deduction forms, account acknowledgement forms when appropriate - Writes or prints receipts and balances cash drawers. 4. OTHER • Required to assist the hospital in the event of an internal or external disaster. • Supports the flexible needs of the department to accommodate patient volume in all areas of the hospital. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: -Demonstrates knowledge of age specific differences in the patient population including physiological and developmental differences unique to each group. -Assess and monitors therapy of patients using appropriate technical skills under the direction and supervision of a physician. -Assists physician with exams and procedures.-Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow. -Demonstrates knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture. -Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central venous access devices and alternate delivering systems. -Documents all elements of care. -Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician or mid level provider. -Serves as a resource person to the medical assistants and LPNs. -Triages patient/family phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart. -Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching. -Demonstrates awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals if necessary. -Provides nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed. -Follows OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood borne pathogen. -Maintains current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities. -Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations. -Maintains patient confidentiality. -Serves as mentor/preceptor and provides day to day guidance to less experienced nurses.
