Late start to strawberry growing

ANTIGO - A Langlade County strawberry farmer needs more time to grow crops and that's because of the late Spring. Merry's Berries is waiting more than a week longer to sell their strawberries. Growers are more concerned about the length of the season rather than the start.

"The winter was very extended and things were really late to start to grow," says Merry's Berries Owner Andy Merry.

Growth in temporary jobs, could continue in future

RHINELANDER - New first quarter business statistics show many companies around the country are hiring more temporary workers. The number of temporary workers nationwide has increased by nearly 30 percent since 2009.

Hiring specialists in the Northwoods are also seeing that trend here. Bob Erickson is a Branch Manager at Nicolet Staffing in Rhinelander.

Greater demand on sheriff's deputies during the summer

VILAS COUNTY - Vilas County's population grows by at least five times during the summer. That puts added pressure on the Vilas County Sheriff's Office.

The busiest months of the year for the Sheriff's office are June, July, and August. The sheriff's office tries to have four deputies on patrol at any given time. During the summer, they sometimes need even more deputies.
