Put on your dancing shoes! Rhinelander is offering a ballroom dancing class

RHINELANDER - Do you have a wedding or social event coming up... but feel like you have two left feet?
Well, there's still time to learn some fancy footwork of your own.

The Rhinelander Community Education program will be holding a ballroom class next Tuesday, October 7th.
You can come alone or as a couple, but you must register beforehand.
The instructor will go over the basics of swing, waltz and polka.

Jackson police use anti-heroin drug to revive man

JACKSON, WI - Jackson police have used the drug Narcan to counter a suspected heroin overdose two weeks after the department received its first Narcan kits.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/1pBraGP ) police found a Milwaukee man unconscious on a commuter bus. An officer noticed his pupils were constricted and administered a dose of Narcan into the man's nose.

Cranberry crop estimated at 5.3 million barrels; still a surplus in the market

WISCONSIN - Cranberry growers don't expect another unprecedented harvest, but the industry does expect to keep Wisconsin's cranberry crown.

Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association Executive Director Tom Lochner says the state should produce 5.3 million barrels of cranberries from the 2014 harvest. Lochner says a barrel holds 100 pounds of cranberries.

Volunteers learn how to become master naturalist

TOMAHAWK - Many people like to take in the wonderful view of the Northwoods,but the scenic land and lakes didn't always look like they do now. Some volunteers in the Northwoods are learning about geology, ecology and wildlife of the Northwoods.

You can expect to see a scenic view just about anywhere in the Northwoods, especially with the colors changing. But have ever wondered how Wisconsin's terrain became what is now?

Keeping drugs off the street with Drug Take Back Day

RHINELANDER - Rhinelander Police didn't see as many prescription pills donations Saturday as they did last year, but they are glad some people got rid of their old pills properly.

The Rhinelander Police Department participated in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The Drug Enforcement Administration's goal is to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way to get rid of prescription drugs.

One hurt, one dead in two person motorcycle accident

TOWN OF ARGONNE - Crandon Area Rescue Squad needed help from two helicopters after two people were hurt in a motorcycle crash Saturday. Both were taken to Marshfield Hospital where a woman later died.

Forest County deputies responded to a single motorcycle accident on Highway 55 North of Argonne.

They believe the driver didn't maintain control on a corner. That caused them to leave the roadway and hit a tree.

Man barricades himself and two young girls in bedroom

MARATHON COUNTY - A man admits to using methamphetamine after barricading himself and two young girls in a bedroom early Saturday morning.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department found the man and two young girls under the age of 10 in a second story bedroom around 4:12 a.m. A woman and two other young kids were in another part of the home.

Getting into the Halloween spirit

EAGLE RIVER - Halloween came a little early to Eagle River this year. The Northwoods Children's Museum held its first Wizard Fest Saturday.

Kids got to dress up like wizards and witches to celebrate magic. The event was inspired by the Harry Potter book series. Teachers showed kids how to make potions, cast spells, and make magic wands. Everyone got to bring something home with them.

Judging the beef

MINOCQUA - You couldn't walk through downtown Minocqua today without tasting some beef.

Dozens of groups used their best spices and secret recipes in hopes of having the best beef at the 50th annual Beef-A-Rama. Some even tried to dazzle the judges with crazy costumes and tricks.

The judges had the most difficult task of the day.
