Candidates for Wisconsin Governor make a final push to get votes in today's election

MADISON - The candidates for Wisconsin Governor make a final push to get votes in today's election.

Governor Scott Walker campaigned Monday with former G-O-P vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan in Sun Prairie.

Walker and Ryan talked to two-hundred supporters at a local tractor supply store.

Barn fire leads to $750k in damage; neighbors help save cattle

TOWN OF SCOTT - Firefighters in Lincoln County credit a group of neighbors for saving cattle during a barn fire near Merrill Monday morning.

The group of 30 to 40 people formed a half mile long fence line to move some of the cattle.

They were moving cattle away from a barn fire at W6945 Joe Snow Road in the Town of Scott. Workers believe a wood burner started the fire around 5:30 a.m.

Legislator wants

WISCONSIN - A legislator in Wisconsin still wants a bill that will allow a terminally ill person to end their life, but it hasn't happened yet.

29-year-old Brittany Maynard of Oregon decided to end her life Saturday. She had incurable brain cancer.

Oregon, Washington and Vermont all have a "Death With Dignity" law.

Wisconsin voters cast nearly 290K absentee ballots

MADISON - Wisconsin election officials say state voters have cast nearly 290,000 absentee votes ahead of Tuesday's election.

According to the state Government Accountability Board, which oversees Wisconsin elections, voters had cast 289,615 absentee ballots as of noon Monday. A little more than 216,361 ballots were cast early in local clerk's offices. The remaining 73,254 ballots were cast by mail or other methods.

The final push; Both parties encouraging people to get out to vote

NORTHWOODS - Polls will open across Wisconsin Tuesday morning at 7 a.m.

Groups on both sides of the ballot were out Monday getting last minute information to voters. Both parties in the Northwoods wanted to remind people about Election Day Tuesday.

In Oneida County, the Republican Party headquarters spent the day calling people in the area.

Jobs, mining and northern Wisconsin, focus of 74th Assembly seat

PARK FALLS - A new person will represent parts of Price, Iron, and Vilas Counties in the Wisconsin State Assembly next year. Rep. Janet Bewley (D-Ashland) is running for the state senate instead of the 74th Assembly seat.

Voters will choose between Beth Meyers (D-Bayfield) and Jamey Francis (R-Hurley). Meyers believes the biggest issue in the district is job creation.

Walleye populations decrease, DNR working on finding out why

NORTHERN WISCONSIN - Lakes in Northern Wisconsin don't have as many walleye as they did in the past. Adult walleye populations in the ceded territory have declined 2% every year.

Populations of young walleye have declined more than that. DNR scientists think that's because walleye aren't reproducing as much. Reproduction has declined 6% every year.

Researchers are looking at past numbers to find out why.

Final stretch of the race keeps both candidates for governor busy

RHINELANDER - The race between Governor Walker and democratic candidate Mary Burke could be a close one. Both candidates have stepped up their campaigning in the final stretch of the race.

Both Walker and Burke will continue making tour stops throughout the state tomorrow and Tuesday.

Walker came to Rhinelander on Friday with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Local restaurant helps raise money for Langlade County Humane Society

ANTIGO - Winter will be here soon. One local humane society wants to make sure they can keep their animals warm, but they're having trouble keeping their shelter running.

That's why Vickie and the Vets held the "Waffles For Wagging Tails" benefit Sunday in Antigo. They raised money for the Langlade County Humane Society.

The owner of the restaurant believes more than 300 people showed their support Sunday.

Families enjoy hayride in Rhinelander

RHINELANDER - Halloween might be over, but that doesn't mean the fall festivities will end.

Woodpecker Bar and Grill teamed up with Western Connection Ranch in Rhinelander to host family hayrides Saturday. The owner of the bar thought Saturday's weather was perfect for this outdoor activity.

"Stuff like this, it's not too cold. I brought my two-year-old boy out today and he absolutely loved it. We stopped at the pumpkin patch.

Racine standoff ends with man arrested, dog killed

RACINE - A more than 3.5 hour standoff in Racine ended with the man arrested and a dog shot and killed.

Forty-nine-year-old Kim Polk says the confrontation started after the man's dog had a bowel movement in her yard while she was using a leaf blower.

When she asked the man to dispose of it, he allegedly kicked it into leaves and then threatened to use a bow and arrow on her and her dog.
