Wildcats withstand Bowler rally

Fri, 02/14/2014 - 7:29am
By:

Gerrard Diaz, [email protected]

Scott Cerveny was deadly from 3-point range, and Christian Haffner scored 25 points Thursday to lead the Gresham Community High School boys basketball team to a 77-67 win over Central Wisconsin Conference-10 foe Bowler in Gresham.

Despite the win, Gresham coach Jeff Zobeck was not satisfied with his team’s play, saying they missed easy shots, gave up layups on the other end and committed too many fouls.

“I was disappointed in our defense,” Zobeck said. “We were flat-footed and not reacting. I was disappointed even when the game got to the point were we felt like we could win it no matter what.”

After trailing early, Gresham (15-5, 12-4 CWC-10) tied the game 12-12 in the first quarter on a Cerveny 3-pointer. On the next possession, Cerveny again sunk one from deep to put the Wildcats up 15-12.

Cerveny, a senior guard, hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 of his 21 points in the first half.

“I don’t know where we’d be if he hadn’t made those (3s),” Zobeck said. “It would have been nice to have made some of the easy ones.”

“He had five 3s in the first half, it felt like 15,” Bowler coach Ted Kietlinski said. “When a guy is hitting shots, you can’t leave a real good shooter with his feet set and open look — he’s going to knock those down. I credit him for knocking the shots down, but we did not do a real good job of finding him and knowing where he was on the floor.”

Gresham went on to build a 37-26 lead by halftime and was up 55-39 at the end of three. Bowler junior Trae Opper’s basket cut the lead to under 10, 70-61, with 1:07 left to play, but that’s where the Bowler (4-15, 2-13 CWC-10) rally stalled.

“We laid a bit of an egg there in the third where the lead kind of blew up to 18-19 for Gresham,” Kietlinski said. “At that point it’s literally now or never. The kids responded. We cut it to a manageable spot. With a couple of good possessions on each end of the court you can make that a really tight game. We were close to doing that, but it didn’t quite happen tonight.”

Haffner, a junior guard, was held to two points in the first half, but finished with 25, scoring 15 in the fourth quarter and going 4-for-4 down the stretch at the free-throw line.

James Kazik added 13 points and Neil Cerveny scored 11 for the Wildcats. Killian Eggert had 12 assists.

Cody Montez led Bowler with 20 points. Chase Nueske added 13 and Walker Miller had 11.

“(Bowler) played hard,” Zobeck said. “They’re really aggressive and really physical. They’ve improved, definitely, since the first time we played them.”

Bowler (67)

B. Miller 1 0-2 2, Montez 7 4-6 20, Kazik 3 3-4 9, Nueske 5 5-6 15, W. Miller 3 5-8 11, Cameron 1 0-0 2, Serrano 2 0-0 6, Opper 1 0-0 2

Gerrard Diaz, [email protected]

Shawano Community High School junior Zack Soper is the top-ranked swimmer in two events in the WIAA Division 2 sectional Saturday in Stevens Point.

The Hawks’ 200-yard medley relay team, which includes Soper, received a No. 2 seed.

Event winners and the top 12 individuals and relay teams from across the state will qualify for the state meet Feb. 21-22 at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium.

Shawano coach Walberto Colon said Wednesday that his team is excited and focused.

“I’m very optimistic,” Colon said. “We’ve worked hard for it. We’ve been talking about it, putting mind, body and heart into what we do. I told them today that I want them to honor themselves, their school and the team.”

Soper, a two-time state qualifier, has the top times in the 100 backstroke and the 100 butterfly.

“It’s a good challenge,” Colon said. “He’s mentally and physically ready for that type of challenge. He’ll be pushing through it the whole time. He has his own personal goal to make that happen.”

Soper will be familiar with most of his opponents, but he hasn’t faced Wausau East senior Garrett Richetto, who is the second seed in the butterfly with a time of 54.94 seconds. Soper has the top spot with a time of 53.57.

“Life challenges you, and you have to be ready to step up,” Colon said. “He has to be ready.”

Soper’s time in the backstroke is 52.23. His closest competition is Ashwaubenon junior Aaron Stange at 59.03.

The 200 medley relay team of Soper, Griffin Rades, Jake Klister, Rolondo Colon and Christian Kane — one swimmer will be an alternate Saturday — has a time of 1:49.30, just behind Ashwaubenon’s mark of 1:44.01. River Falls is a close third, clocking in at 1:51.07.

“Whoever wants it the most is going to get it,” Walberto Colon said. “Do they have a chance for state? It’s in their hands.”

The Hawks 400 freestyle relay team of Rolondo Colon, Klister, Rades, Soper and Christian Kane is the No. 4 seed, clocking in at 3:40.18. Ashwaubenon holds the top time at 3:24.48.

No other Hawks are seeded in the top five.

The other seedings are Rades, 500 freestyle, sixth, and 100 backstroke, eighth; Christian Kane, 200 individual medley, eighth, and 100 breaststroke, eighth; Adrian Tetting, 100 freestyle, eighth, 50 freestyle, 19th; Rolondo Colon, 200 freestyle, 1oth, and 500 freestyle, 10th; Klister, 50 freestyle, 10th, and 100 freestyle, 10th; 200 freestyle relay (Easter, Nathan Kane, Kraning, Alex Retzlaff and Christian Kane), 10th; Nathan Kane, 200 freestyle, 21st, 500 freestyle, 18th; Kraning, 50 freestyle, 25th; Retzlaff, 100 butterfly, 16th, 100 breaststroke, 16th; Cayman Kunschke, 100 breaststroke, 22nd.

Hawks blow out Oconto Falls

Gerrard Diaz, [email protected]

Leader Photo by Gerrard Diaz Shawano Community High School guard Zack Sousek takes a shot during a Bay Conference game against Oconto Falls Tuesday in Shawano. Shawano rolled to a 59-33 victory.

The Shawano Community High School boys basketball team was the clear favorite going into Tuesday’s Bay Conference game with Oconto Falls. When the Panthers handed the Hawks 25 extra chances — that is 25 turnovers — the mismatch only grew.

Shawano (11-8, 9-4 Bay) beat Oconto Falls 59-33.

“We’re a good defensive team,” Shawano coach Chris Kellett said. “We pride ourselves on getting stops night in and night out. It doesn’t matter who we’re playing; we’re going to pressure you and get into you and make you uncomfortable a little bit.”

The Hawks were up 17-7 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 32-11 by halftime. Playing mostly bench players in the second half, the Hawks still outscored Oconto Falls, 26-22. Fourteen Shawano players scored in the game.

“That’s a great sign of unselfish basketball,” Kellett said. “The kids were having fun out there and playing together and that’s all I could ask for.”

“I picked these guys (Shawano) to be one of the surprise teams in the conference; these guys are good,” Oconto Falls coach Kirk Hirst said. “You don’t beat West De Pere and Seymour and not be good. But it really came down to us taking care of the ball.”

Jack Lacy, a 6-foot-5 junior forward, led the scoring for the Hawks, getting 13 of his 15 points before halftime. Garret Schlise added seven.

Michael Fifield led Oconto Falls (3-15, 2-12 Bay) with a game-high 16 points.

“We had some guys play really, really well tonight,” Hirst said. “I thought Mike Fifield had a very good game. Probably one of the best games he’s played all year.”

Despite a close loss to West De Pere on Friday, Kellett said his team is hitting its stride at the right time.

“We’re peaking right now,” Kellett said. “Even though we lost to West De Pere — we let one slip — hopefully we can continue this roll that we’re on.”

In junior varsity action, Shawano beat Oconto Falls 54-49 in overtime.

Vosters won his fourth conference championship and was named the Most Valuable Wrestler of the tournament.

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School wrestling team earned its third consecutive championship, Bonduel placed second and Menominee Indian third Saturday at the Central Wisconsin Conference tournament in Wittenberg.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood, which wiwrestling.com has ranked as the No. 2 team in Division 2, finished with seven champions. Bonduel, ranked seventh in Division 3, had four champions.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood was led by Ben Vosters, who capped his senior year with his fourth conference championship. Vosters beat Bonduel’s Austin Siolka with 13-2 major decision at 120 pounds.

“It’s been fun,” Vosters said. “Four-time conference champ, that was one of my smaller goals coming in freshman year. I just kept getting closer and closer every year, and I finally accomplished it. It feels good.”

Vosters was voted the most valuable wrestler of the tournament by the conference coaches.

“It’s not easy to do it four times,” Wittenberg-Birnamwood coach Troy Ostrowski said. “I think the coaches respect that. We know how tough it is.”

The coaches also voted Ostrowski the coach of the year.

Freshman Stetson Potrykus got the Chargers going with a pin of Bonduel’s Scott Gunderson in 22 seconds of the first championship match of the day.

One of the Chargers’ toughest tests came at 138 pounds where Brenden Randall upset Shiocton’s Austin Riehl, a two-time conference champion and the weight class’s top-ranked wrestler in Division 3, 9-7.

The Chargers’ other champions were Bobby Uttecht (132), who pinned Manawa’s Daryn Claussen in 1:29; Braxton Potrykus (152), who beat Bonduel’s Dan Tauchen 11-8; Alex Peplinski (160), who defeated Bonduel’s Mitch Sokolski with a 17-2 technical fall; and August Peplinski (195), who won a 3-1 decision over Shiocton’s Dominic Gunderson.

Doug Ostrowski and John White Wing finished second at 182 and 285, respectively, for the Chargers.

Bonduel senior Jacob Wudtke (170) won his first CWC title with a 7-5 decision over Weyauwega-Fremont’s Brandon Loehrke.

“It feels great,” Wutdke said. “The first one is always the best. Especially with it being my last year to get it. Nothing feels better than right there. I’ve been working really hard for this.”

Wudtke lost to Loehrke the last time the two met, but had no trouble getting a lead and hanging on Saturday.

Other Bears bringing home CWC titles were Garrett Siolka (113), who defeated Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Zach Urquhart 10-0; Travis Wollenberg (126), who beat Witt-Birn’s Gavin Czerwonka 3-1; and Sam Kroening (145), who pinned Witt-Birn’s Griffin Magee in 2:45.

Bennett Gunderson (195) finished third for the Bears.

No Menominee Indian wrestlers made the finals, but eight reached the podium by winning third-place matches.

“We had a real hard time in the semifinals,” Menominee Indian coach Kirk Bahr said. “I’m pretty proud of how they bounced back from that semifinal beating we took.”

MIHS wrestlers placing third were Vel Hawkins (106), Blake Stoehr (120), Kyle Winker (126), Patrick White (132), Antonio Mahkimetas (145), Forrest Webster (152), James Pecore (182) and Keenan Richmond (220).

Hawks' last-second shot off mark

SCHS girls lose to West De PereBy:

Gerrard Diaz, [email protected]

Leader Photo by Gerrard Diaz Shawano Community High School guard Megan Klitzke advances the ball against West De Pere on Friday in Shawano.

The Shawano Community High School girls basketball team failed to hold off a West De Pere rally Friday night in Shawano, losing 30-28 to the Bay Conference foe.

The Hawks (4-12, 4-8 Bay) were just inches short on a final shot by junior Courtney Vomastic, who had come off the bench to score a team-high eight points in the second half. She hit a pair of three-pointers, the second of which came with 19.8 seconds left and tied the game at 28-28.

“We needed some scoring and some excitement,” Shawano coach Ryan Koenig said. “She came in and hit some big shots.”

On the next possession, Elizabeth Edinger, a 5-foot-4 freshman guard, hit a basket to reclaim the lead for West De Pere (7-8, 5-5 Bay).

Vomastic, a 5-10 forward, got off the final shot of the game, also from beyond the 3-point arc, in the final seconds, but it bounced off the rim to seal the West De Pere victory.

“She was hot and just barely missed it,” Koenig said. “I’ll take her shooting any day of the week. She’s the best shot on our team and I have no problem with that last shot.”

Megan Klitzke added seven points and six rebounds for the Hawks. Lindsey Kurtz scored three points and had six rebounds.

After both teams tied 9-9 in the first half, Shawano came out of halftime to build a 17-11 lead midway through the third quarter and had an eight-point lead by the start of the fourth.

“I thought the first half we were standing around, not moving too much,” Koenig said. “They’re playing a good man-to-man defense. You have to move around and set some screens. I thought we were lazy of the offensive end. I thought we came out in the second half sharper, looking for different things.”

Freshman Hannah Stefaniak led West De Pere with 14 points. Edinger finished with 12.

“We just had a lapse on defense for about a half a quarter there where we let them penetrate, which they didn’t do the whole game,” Koenig said. “All of a sudden they rattled off eight points and it’s a whole new ballgame. We’re improving, our defense is excellent, the girls are working hard and we’re putting it together at the right time.”

Wudtke set on return to state

Fri, 02/07/2014 - 7:42pm
By:

Gerrard Diaz, [email protected]

Leader Photo by Gerrard Diaz Jacob Wudtke wrestles Menominee Indian’s Troy Penass-Kaquatosh during a dual meet Jan. 30 in Bonduel. Wudtke’s goals this season include returning to the state meet.

Bonduel High School wrestler Jacob Wudtke had a tough match his freshman year against Shiocton’s Zech Riehl.

“I wrestled him like nine times in my life and I’d never beaten him,” Wudtke said. “My freshman year, I finally pulled it out and beat him. That’s one match that I’ll never forget.”

Four years and about a hundred wins later, Wudtke, now a senior preparing for the Central Wisconsin Conference tournament Saturday in Wittenberg — and ultimately a return to state — is a completely different wrestler.

“I’ve changed my wrestling style. I’ve gained almost 40 pounds of wrestling weight,” said Wudtke, who wrestles at 170 pounds. “It’s a lot of adapting and learning new styles. If you would have seen me four years before and see me now, completely different wrestler, completely different person.”

It is one of the more dramatic transformations that coach Chris Rank has seen.

“He was your average, short, little pudgier guy coming in as a freshman,” Rank said. “Probably not the most athletic individual coming in as a freshman, but he has worked tremendously these last four years, more than any of the boys in this school.

“He has dedicated himself these last four years to be the best athlete and the best leader for Bonduel. I couldn’t be more proud of him. Everything he’s earned, he’s worked for. For him to accomplish 100 wins for us as a wrestler is pretty amazing.”

“It does feel good. Getting 100 wins is something that every wrestler strives for,” said Wudtke, who is 112-39 over his career, including 28-4 this season.

Wudtke is the captain and one of the team’s most vocal leaders, a trait he picked up from 2012 BHS graduate Drew Wudtke.

“Drew Wudtke, my cousin, he was always a vocal leader and I looked up to him a lot,” He said. “That really rubbed off on me. … It’s awesome in my eyes because I’m getting myself pumped up, and at the same time everybody around me is getting into the zone to get ready for their match.”

After the conference tournament, Wudtke will turn his focus to the WIAA tourney series. He was a state qualifier a year ago, but missed the podium, losing 5-4 to Clear Lake senior Garrett Paulson, who got an escape in the final 22 seconds to get the win.

“My goal for myself is that I want to make the podium at state this year,” Wudtke said. “Last year, I made it, and this year, I want to take it one step higher. I want to place there.”

If he makes it to state, Wudtke said he will be better prepared than he was last year.

“The thing is, last year I got to learn a lot,” he said. “I got to state and experienced it and kind of got the bugs out of the system. Now if I make it this year, I don’t have to be nervous about any of that stuff. I know what to expect. I can just go and wrestle.”

Sturgeon opener has all eyes on ice

Fri, 02/07/2014 - 5:51pm
By:

Ross Bielema, Leader Columnist

Today’s opening day comes down to three questions for thousands of sturgeon spearers and their supporting family, friends and onlookers:

Will I see a sturgeon?

Will I spear a sturgeon?

Will I break the state record?

Water clarity is everything for spearers. That’s one reason there’s a lottery for licenses to spear over the upriver lakes of Poygan, Winneconne and Butte des Morts. The water there is much clearer and shallower than Lake Winnebago, the main sturgeon haven. There’s no limit on the number of licenses for Lake Winnebago, but water depths of 12 to 16 feet can make it hard to see as spearers gaze through door-sized holes in the ice from the comfort of heated shanties.

This year, the spearers all have two things to be thankful for: clear water and thick ice.

Last year was dicey, with thin ice making conditions less than safe in many areas. Breaking through the ice with a pickup truck is a sure way to ruin a good morning spearing. But the ice is now 2 to 4 feet thick, thanks to weeks of unrelenting bitter cold.

The good news for spearers came on Tuesday when Ryan Koenigs, senior fisheries biologist and lead sturgeon man for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, issued an email reporting 14 to 16 feet of visibility on Winnebago (it’s understood that the spearers on the upriver lakes will have little trouble seeing their fish).

Lake sturgeon like to hang near the bottom, where most of their food is found. Spearers like to put PVC pipe or shiny objects on the bottom, helping them to see sturgeon as they swim over it.

“These conditions should bode for a successful sturgeon spearing season that will get under way on Saturday,” Koenigs wrote. “These are the best spearing conditions we’ve had in a number of seasons, so get out there and take advantage.”

DNR technicians checked water clarity in 8 to 20 feet of water at eight locations, from 1 to 3 1/2 miles from shore at Stockbridge, Fisherman’s Point, Wendt’s on the Lake, Oshkosh and Payne’s Point. Most areas had 15 to 16 feet of clarity; at 1 1/2 miles from Wendt’s, the water was the most stained, with 8 feet of clarity.

Some spearers go years, even a decade or more, without ever seeing a sturgeon in the water. Patience takes on a whole new meaning as these anglers stare into their dimly lit holes like someone watching a TV test pattern for hours at a time. Any little sighting, such as a bluegill or gizzard shad dancing near the hole, can break the monotony. No hook-and-line fishing is allowed through the large chainsaw-cut sturgeon holes, so that is not an option.

Sturgeon spearers use every technique they can muster to draw these prehistoric fish to their holes. Wooden fish-shaped lures remain the traditional favorite, but shiny objects, including coffee cans, CDs and aluminum foil pans, are common, too.

The Lake Winnebago system has more lake sturgeon than anywhere else in the world, with an estimated 50,000 fish. Over the years, tight management—supported by sportsmen and honed by DNR biologists—has seen the fish grow larger and more plentiful. About 10 percent of all the fish speared now top 100 pounds. Eight of the 10 biggest sturgeon taken since 1932 were speared in the past four years.

Biologists know there are fish out there bigger than Ron Grishaber’s 212.2-pound, 84.2-inch fish that entered the record book on opening day 2010 when he stuck his legend near High Cliff State Park on the northernmost point of Lake Winnebago.

Biologists capture and tag sturgeon when they spawn in the spring, and have boated bigger fish, including a few on the Wolf River near Shawano Dam. The Wolf River is the sturgeon’s primary spawning area, and this thrashing, splashing spectacle holds local residents spellbound every year.

But spearing time is the best time to see big sturgeon up close enough to touch. A number of weigh stations around the lakes provides the curious with an ideal chance to see the fish and chat with the lucky spearers, sharing their excitement and endless stories.

Loose Eagles take care of Bowler

Thu, 02/06/2014 - 11:16pm
By:

Gerrard Diaz, [email protected]

Leader Photo by Gerrard Diaz Menominee Indian High School guard Dustin Waupoose eyes a shot from beyond the 3-point line Thursday in Keshena. MIHS defeated Bowler, 61-41.

Three players scored in double figures Thursday as the Menominee Indian High School boys basketball team beat Bowler 61-41 in a Central Wisconsin Conference-10 game in Keshena.

“It was probably the first game all year that we played loose,” Menominee Indian coach Brandon Frechette said. “It didn’t seem like they were tense.”

After a 6-6 first quarter, the Eagles (6-9, 6-6 CWC-10) went on a 11-0 run midway through the second quarter.

Dustin Waupoose, a sophomore guard, nailed a 3-point shot, which was followed by a pair of baskets by freshman guard Ron Frechette, another basket by Waupoose and a pair of free throws by junior Michael Pecore.

Ron Frechette led the Eagles with 15 points. Pecore finished with 14, and Waupoose had 13.

The coach was more than happy to see his younger players playing within themselves and getting results.

“A couple of our younger players have been trying to do too much,” he said. “We just wanted everybody to give their all and not try to do more than that. They did that tonight.

“Dustin had a great game. We asked him to pick it up on defense and he did. Ron is kind of being patient on offense, and that’s helping him out.”

Pecore, the team’s point guard, got credit for running the offense and directing his younger teammates.

“Pecore is a coach on the court,” coach Frechette said. “We’re fortunate to run our offense when he comes out; it doesn’t happen very often. He does a great job.”

The Eagles led 21-11 by halftime and opened the second half with a 14-2 run, before the Panthers (3-13, 1-11 CWC-10) put together a 9-0 run to cut the Eagles’ lead to 35-22.

“We just couldn’t hit shots,” Bowler coach Ted Kietlinski said. “Not enough movement, not enough cutting. It looked to me like were were a little passive. … We talked about that at halftime. I thought in stretches in the second half we played much better offensively, but then we had a lot of defensive lapses.”

Bowler’s run was led by 6-foot junior guard Cody Montez, who was held to just a 3-pointer in the first half before finishing with a team-high 13 points.

“He’s a really good all-around player,” Kietlinski said. “He’s a good perimeter player. He’s also a kid that is capable of taking the ball to the basket and finishing scoring there.”

The Eagles closed the door with 24 points in the fourth quarter. Waupoose scored eight points and hit two more 3-point shots while Pecore and freshman Charles Lasley each added a 3.

In junior varsity action, Menominee Indian beat Bowler 53-50 in overtime.

Forty students participated in the bee, which lasted eight rounds.

Timler correctly spelled the word “shiatsu” to win the bee. Meghan Wondra successfully spelled “pontiff” to win runner-up honors in a tie-breaking round.

Timler will advance to the regional bee, which will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at Shawano Community Middle School, 1050 S. Union St., Shawano.

This year, a vocabulary round was integrated into the bee to prepare the students for new requirements of the state and national bees.

District Administrator Peter Behnke was the pronouncer for the bee, which will be his last before retirement. Lisa Sorlie, spelling bee coordinator, said she plans to invite Behnke to return as a special guest next year but “sort of hopes that he’ll be too busy traveling and enjoying all that retirement has to offer.”

Hawks dominant in win

Tue, 02/04/2014 - 11:13pm

Gerrard Diaz, [email protected]

Leader Photo by Gerrard Diaz Shawano Community High School guard Dillon Frechette (2) takes a shot over the Denmark defense Tuesday in Shawano. Shawano won, 67-33.

After falling to Luxemburg-Casco 52-44 Monday night, the Shawano Community High School boys basketball team righted itself Tuesday night against Denmark.

The Hawks (10-7, 8-3 Bay) dominated from the opening tip, finishing off the Bay Conference foe 67-33.

“We were due to shoot it well,” Shawano coach Chris Kellett said. “Shooting the ball goes along with playing unselfish, and I’m proud of my guys tonight for how well they passed with each other. We truly played like a team and we were able to pull one out.”

Dillon Frechette, a 5-foot-10 senior guard, led the charge off the bench. He hit two 3-point shots in the first half, on his way to a game-high 14 points.

“Dillon Frechette didn’t start for us for the first time in a while,” Kellett said. “Sometimes it’s nice coming off the bench because they kind of forget about you and some guys are tired. Dillon went in, and not only did he score, he was very good on the defensive side of the ball, and that’s all we ask of him.”

With Shawano leading 19-7 after the first quarter, Denmark (3-14, 3-10 Bay) turned to Brent Rabas, a 6-foot senior guard who had two first-half 3-pointers and scored eight of his 11 first-half points in the second quarter.

Despite Rabas, Shawano continued to pull away. By halftime, it was 35-19 and the Hawks put together a 23-4 run, led by Zeke Gueths.

Gueths, a 6-foot-6 center, scored four points in the first half, but exploded for nine in the third quarter, moving people around in the paint.

“Can’t say enough about how Zeke has played the last three games,” Kellett said. “He’s been way more aggressive than he was earlier in the year. If Zeke can do that, he’s a heck of a player and I’m excited for him.”

With Shawano in control much of the game, Kellett took the opportunity to get a lot of players minutes, including Travis Geenen, who took over at point guard for Zack Sousek in the second quarter and helped expand the Hawks’ lead from 12 to 20 points.

“Travis was tremendous tonight, and that’s the Travis that we like to see,” Kellett said. “Hopefully we’ll continue to do that.”

The Hawks travel to West De Pere on Friday, where Kellett knows his team will have to play harder than it did in its previous win over the Phantoms.

“We’ll do some things differently against West De Pere than we did the first time,” Kellett said. “They’ll have more time to prep for us. … They’re an unbelievably talented team and no matter what we do, we have to play harder than they do and take care of the basketball.”
