MAYVILLE - Two groups of Wisconsin-raised whooping cranes have been released to fly toward warmer climates for the winter. Nine were released last Thursday from the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge in Dodge County near some older whooping cranes from which they will learn the migration route south. Full Story: WJFW

DOOR COUNTY - In August we told you about two men from Rhinelander who were training for a 50 mile ultramarathon. Their goal was to raise money in support of returning veterans. Their months of training finally paid off Saturday. Full Story: WJFW

MERRILL - A four legged friend will soon help police in Merrill. A grant from the Bierman Family Foundation will let the Merrill Police Department put together its first canine unit. Full Story: WJFW

MADISON - Campus police at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have issued a warning about excessive drinking after two students were found passed out with life-threatening levels of blood alcohol. Full Story: WJFW

ADAMS COUNTY - The Ice Age left northern Wisconsin with thousands and thousands of lakes. It left central Wisconsin with a lot of flat, sandy territory, but it also left some spots with striking sandstone landforms, like Roche-A-Cri mound in Adams County. MADISON - Pregnant women could soon have more job protection in the state of Wisconsin. A proposed bill would offer more protection than federal laws already provide. It was introduced by democratic Representative Eric Genrich from Green Bay. He says this bill would make it no longer OK to say "come back to work when you're not pregnant". Full Story: WJFW

ADAMS COUNTY - An early morning fire in Adams County killed two people and put a third person in the hospital. A 911 call came in at 1:39 this morning about a fire on Evergreen Court in the town of Easton. Full Story: WJFW

MADISON - The chief Senate sponsor of a bill that would weaken local control over Wisconsin's booming sand mining industry says his legislation needs work, and he doesn't expect the Senate will take it up before next year. Full Story: WJFW

MENOMONEE FALLS - Police are hoping to find evidence in a Menomonee Falls landfill about the disappearance of a Milwaukee woman who has been missing for over two weeks. Because the investigation is ongoing, the Milwaukee Police Department is releasing few details. Full Story: WJFW

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee police say a 45-year-old homeless man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident. A police statement says the man was crossing a street Saturday night when he was struck by a Cadillac Escalade driven by a woman who initially fled but later turned herself in. Full Story: WJFW
